You say a **bleep** game. Perhaps by some standards. However, it is not to be dismissed so casually either. This supposedly dead game still is ongoing almost 9 and a half years after the time you declared it dead in your post. Anything that can keep going for 23 years must have something special.
I admit it is no longer as widely known and by mmo standards utterly ancient. However, It remains as the very first sci-fi mmo, has an unbelievable amount of in depth content and flexability. If one were to just start playing today, it would still take years to try it all and learn its complexities. Most dismiss it when they see a lower game population and older graphics. Those who stick around long enough are often amazed at all they can do and explore. Even with just the free content alone. Its biggest plus in my opinion though, is the mindset and community spirit of those diehards still playing. A game is only as good as the attitudes of its players. A fantastic game with amazing graphics can still be an utter dumpster fire piece of crap if the attitudes of those who play it are all rude exploitive trolls whose only goal is to see how many they can tick off. Me?.. I would take a dated old 'dead' game like AO with a decent community and try to bring new life into it, even if just for the retro feel of it over some cutting edge new mmo that draws all the trolls out wanting new grounds to spoil, any day. Dedicated trolls rarely bother with it so those remaining are quite decent.
However, this is merely my own opinion. Which includes the belief that any game still going for over 23 years and which has had numerous changes over the years... Including a newer graphics engine since when you wrote this message? Why not give it a look. I have also been away from it for a while dealing with life. Though sooner or later, it always draws me back in for a while and has yet to dissappoint me.
