I'm just wondering has anyone tried send a request out, and actually got one? I'd like to try it out since unfortunately my Rift's built-in headphones stopped working several months ago. I emailed a request for the kit the day it was announced by Palmer Luckey, but I haven't gotten an email back from anyone yet. So just curious if they are actually being mailed out, or if it not really a thing.
Strange, you'd think there would be some kind of automated system setup for this. Especially considering the high number of people effected by this problem.

I think it's impressive that he's footing the bill for the kits, without paying for an automated system.

Yup. But some have still received a refurbished Rift even when out of warranty (at least according to r/Oculus).
I'm just curious on the variability of those that get a refurb unit (when outside of warranty) vs those that are denied, and those that just jump straight to Palmer's RR1 fix without inquiring on getting a Refurb.

Well, they couldn't replace mine with a refurb one since mine was already second hand. My audio was working fine, but one day it just stopped working. The only way I was able to get a replacement is if I paid for it, and I might as well had gotten a new Rift at that point.
