Anyone else skip RE7 because of the lack of VR on PC?

Vetkin

After reading all of the positive reviews of RE7 I've been tempted to buy it, but it's been difficult to pull the trigger because of the missing VR support on PC. I feel like I'd be spoiling the experience for myself playing through for the first time on a flat screen when there is a superior version out there.

If there had been no VR support at all I probably would have bought it already, but now I'll probably wait a year or more for it to be cheap and support VR on PC (if it ever does). In my case at least the  PSVR exclusivity cost them a sale, which seems stupid considering that PSVR and the rift/vive aren't really in direct competition.

Anyone else holding out?

Hoping that by the time its released on PC it supports Touch.

Even from watching a playthrough there is so much room for improvement by Motion Controls. I hope the exclusivity time period is spent wisely to add the functionality, if they do the game would probably sell double on PC.

For now, no interest in playing flat and I'm miles away from purchasing a PS4 let alone PSVR to go with it.

I am not touching it until it has VR support, will probably get cheaper while I wait too.

I ended up peaking through the bottom of my Rift and watching my monitor instead of staying immersed. Cause... pee pee pants city.

lol I clicked on a Blair Witch video the other night - think it was on the Facebook 360 vids, i think i lasted 10 seconds before i had to bail out.

Can not take horror in the Rift but i love that because it shows just how good it is.

Like others here, i won't play this until it's on the Rift.  Played the first on PSOne, might have also played the second...
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

Hahah, yes it is quite the conundrum.

My problem isn't with the fear, it is specifically with the Jump Scares. For example, I played most of Dead Secret and Edge of Nowhere in one sitting, without any problems. They both employ very few jump scares (e.g. no more than 3 the entire game). Whereas games like "Dont Knock Twice" and "Emily Wants to Play" rely almost entirely upon jump scares.

I do enjoy being afraid. I just hate the anticipation of something instantly and violently appearing inches from my pupils lol

Yeah, i was just being silly anyway. I do like horror games but most of the current VR horror games aren't very interesting to me. Don't knock Twice was decent for a free game but I found the ending very anti-climatic. I liked the suspense building but it ended rather blandly for me.

I liked some of the earlier resident evil game, most of them up to RS4. Would be really interesting to play an old school Resident Evil game in VR, and it seems the new one is going back to the roots in many ways. I just don't like the idea of playing it with a controller, and I get VR sick from artificial movement. So with all the reports on Resident Evil in VR, it doesn't bode well for me if I were to play it.

After playing it through quite a lot I'd say I wouldn't count on VR support.

*potential spoilers - but about gameplay, not story*

The head bobbing I suppose could be dealt with, and if you aren't prone to motion sickness you could control your way around.  However, as part of the game's experience your own character's head motion sometimes shakes and slips around (and yes, my controller is perfectly good - it happened both with an Xbox Elite controller and my Keyboard + Mouse).

Secondly, there are quite a few spooky moments that require you to be looking the right way when you're in the right place.

Third, there are quite a number of QTE moments that grab your head direction and then have you moving in a specific direction, all through a 1st person viewpoint.  Since you won't be able to look around during these moments you'll probably get frustrated as hell at them, and there would be a LOT of complaints.

Fourth, you don't play the whole game as some gun-toting shoot-all-the-baddies guy.  There are plenty of crouch-and-hide moments for various reasons I won't ruin.

Sure, there's all sorts of exploring, but there are Lara Croft-style sliding behind the walls and stepping through water up to your neck, and your hands automatically reach out and grab things as you go by to steady yourself. I'm not sure that VR is up to it....but I could be wrong.

------------

I admit I only started at RE5 and enjoyed it, and that could have worked.  RE6 - well, I have it, but I've just never been able to play past the first 15 minutes TBH.  I keep promising myself I'll do it one day, if the controls are sorted and the glitches ironed out.

Atonnis, RE7 already has VR support, but only PSVR right now due to a one-year exclusivity deal.

I'm only looking forward to VR titles, like Robo Recall and Killing Floor VR.

As for getting RE7 on PC after it does go VR : In 2018 I won't be looking into one year old VR games, I'll be looking into the new ones.

i played it trough non VR. Super awesome game. Loved it. And i will play it again as soon as it get released for VR/or mod. Don't really see a reason why to wait.. it's still one of the best games right now even without VR.

Because the jump scares will no-longer be scary once you have played it through.
