Specifically looking for experienced with westmere xeons that are overclocked or 970/980x i7s. My dad's x5670 is running at 4ghz and he has plans to get a gtx1080 to go with it. Benchmarks show it comparing favorably to newer CPUs but I was hoping someone here was actually running a similar system with some real world experiences.
I don't think the cpu should be a bottleneck at 4ghz but you never know.
I use those settings on my 4790K OC to 4.9ghz and the "avg" usage is about 40-55% and I run SLI 980TIs
I also use my computer for other things that could benefit the extra cores, like edting video from HPDE. But primary game I play are Racing Sims, I rarely play other type of video games.
Also, the BW-E has Turbo 3.0, so let say you can do a 4.3ghz ALL cores OC, with Turbo 3.0 you can use the "favorite core" to clock higher, maybe say 4.5ghz
