Bit served a similar task in the movie Tron and its PC Games.
It could be anything- a Cat with a Siri Like Personality or a mischievous Dog with a sense of humor.
In Tad Williams Novel Otherland Beezle Bug was able to download into a IRL robot bug, that was so cool!
Meta would be a perfect name for the sidekick, or Zuck!
