Best Force Feedback wheels for VR

AdKiuCM

As per the topic. Could you recommend some nice wheels with force feedback for VR? Meaning "for VR" we don't need speed/rev displays + 1000 switches etc.

Immersion is most important. I consider buying G29 + pedals + shifter. Price is quite reasonable too. heard some opinions it is too small for good immersion.

I do not mind paying more for good quality products, but I am not a great simrace maniac and it is for occasional weekend playing, sometimes with friends etc.

I do not have a special chair or space for it. I use my living room armchair for gaming. Would have to clip wheel on a table in the front of mee unfortunately each time and disassemble it at the end of each session.

Also I hope to spark a decent discussion about wheels, their quality, quality of FF etc. I never owned one, but tested a few before in my friends places or shop displays.

Been enjoying playing Dirt lately so decided to hit the credit card today, and ordered a Thrustmaster T300 RS.  I know everyone says that the pedals are crap, so I'll probably upgrade those in a few weeks.  Also purchased a GT Omega Art race cockpit.  Might as well get comfy 🙂  I guess I'll be looking at Project Cars next.  Better get some overtime in to pay for all this lot 😞

£300 for a frame a seat. That's not too bad, in the land of racing cockpits. And looks pretty good too.

Found a 5% off code online too, so that eased it down a little more 🙂

My previous wheel was a G25, which, although I quite liked it at the time, never felt as good, smooth and strong as my old Logitech Wingman Formula Force (red), which was belt driven.  Being belt, as opposed to cog, was the deciding factor for me choosing the Thrustmaster over Logitech's latest offerings.  Just hope that I get a good one, because reading around leads me to believe that their QC can be a little suspect at times.

Also using a omega gt wheel stand. Had some issues with it, like the pre drilled holes in the bottom did not line up for the 3 pedals add on, but I was able to work around it using different holes and one of the pieces of mounting hardware from the shifter to secure it so it does t move. Also I am using a lazy boy recliner with it so the shifter mount is useless because it hangs too low and would get in the way of the seat. So I had to mount the shifter on the same panel that the actual wheel sits on. It works, but the shifter is a little too close to the wheel than I would prefer. Eventually I'll probably get a proper seat so I can use the mount and have the shifter where it is supposed to be.
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on forums?

I've just had some "fun" in DiRT Rally, where the clutch didn't appear to be fully disengaging, causing the car to overrev dramatically, (don't do this in your real car by the way).   After a fair bit of head scratching. Adjusting the clutch dead zone setting corrected the problem, making the clutch go from 0% to 100% instead of the 44% to 100% it was doing before,

live and learn I guess 😉

edit- update on my clutch issue.  It would appear that the g29 had lost its clutch calibration, as I went into USB game controller setup and did a reset and that brought back the full 0-100% range on the clutch pedal. I have therefore now removed the clutch dead zone setting in dirt rally.

So after using the playseat challenge for a few days alongside my G920, can honestly say it's gotta be one of the most immersive experiences I've had since getting my CV1, having a physical controller to match what your doing in the game really does massively increase the immersion, so this just makes me more excited for touch now

Tried it on my xbox one first with forza and was pretty good but soon as I put the rift on with project cars, seriously was absolutely incredible as my arms and hands in the game on the wheel were pretty much matching my wheel outside the rift and there was so many times I really thought my arms and hands in VR were my actual physical ones

The force feedback for this wheel is so much better on the PC too in project cars as when it shakes it literally shakes the whole seat which adds to the imeersion even more

I know there are probably better sterring wheels out there but having the playseat is an absolute must, I even sat in it first while I watched a film with the wife (like you do) to see if it became uncomfortable and it didn't at all and there was a few times I thought I was actually sitting in a car 😄

So many times it felt soo real, even being able to do things like you put your head out of the car window while your driving is awesome, think I'll be getting dirt rally very soon, just gonna see if the price drops!

Glad you're enjoying the experience.  A decent seat and wheel combo really does take things to the next level.  My GT Omega Art sim cockpit and my T300RS both turned up yesterday.  I tested the wheel on my office desk with Dirt Rally, and, after I'd dialled the wheel back to 360 degrees of rotation, it was fantastic.  The wheel really did let me know what the car was doing at all times.  I'm really pleased with it.  I've just spent this morning assembling the cockpit, and marrying it up to the wheel and pedals.  It feels beautiful to sit in.  I'll get the PC and rift hooked up later on this afternoon for some serious petrol-head antics 🙂

Hehe, just don't demo anyone's SimVibe setup and Motion-rig with a Direct-drive wheel; it's a whole different world and, costly one too. 🙂
