Best Force Feedback wheels for VR

As per the topic. Could you recommend some nice wheels with force feedback for VR? Meaning "for VR" we don't need speed/rev displays + 1000 switches etc.

Immersion is most important. I consider buying G29 + pedals + shifter. Price is quite reasonable too. heard some opinions it is too small for good immersion.

I do not mind paying more for good quality products, but I am not a great simrace maniac and it is for occasional weekend playing, sometimes with friends etc.

I do not have a special chair or space for it. I use my living room armchair for gaming. Would have to clip wheel on a table in the front of mee unfortunately each time and disassemble it at the end of each session.

Also I hope to spark a decent discussion about wheels, their quality, quality of FF etc. I never owned one, but tested a few before in my friends places or shop displays.

I had 4 different fanatec wheels including 2 porsche wheels and CSR,  prone to failure and unless under warranty difficult to fix. Love the pedals and gear shifter but would not recommend the wheels. Go for a Logitech or Thrustmaster if I were you.

I had a logitech g25 break, in a quite annoying manner. A plastic gear inside broke, or at least i think it was a plastic gear (long time ago) and i think that was a very fragile piece to have inside a force feedback wheel. Know i don't know what parts are inside my current wheel, but that is because it hasn't broken. I have had no issues with my Fanatec. Unless something breaks then i can say at least from my own experience that Fanatec wheel are great. Since they have discontinued my 911 GT3 all their wheel are very expensive though.

Thrustmaster user here.  Did a lot of debating and online comparing between that and a Logitech setup, but ended up with a full Thrustmaster setup because I figured it would be better to keep common brand since I was planning on the Thrustmaster pedals and shifter anyway.  I really wanted a clutch and quality H pattern shifter, so that drove a decent chunk of the purchase.  Had looked at Fanatec pieces, but with the old CSR pedals going out of production I wasn't willing to dump the money into the Elite pedal setup.

I have the Thrustmaster TX base (XBox version of the T300 since I have some Forza games so I could use it on the console, pick whichever flavor suits you) and bought the leather wheel.  You can buy the base with an included wheel, but since I was going to replace it anyway I didn't feel like having a cheapy plastic one taking up space.  Pedals are the T3PA Pro set and I really like them so far.  Would prefer a little more spring under the throttle and clutch, but I adjust pretty quick so it hasn't bothered me much.  Comes with a conical bumper mod for the brake pedal to give it a more realistic feel that I have enjoyed.  Shifter is a TH8A which is a quality piece, though really not a tremendously good analog to a real car shifter in my opinion, just way to soft.  I know you can adjust it some, but I haven't messed with it much yet.  I'm used to a fairly heavy shifter in my daily driver.

All that said, if you only plan to race paddle shifters or don't care about a clutch, the wheel is still a nice piece and not too bad on price and you can get a cheaper set of pedals.  You can always build up the system as you go.

I think many of us started out with entry-level wheels or even used a joy-stick or keyboard to play racing-games and then over time, upgraded several times as our interest in Racing-sims grew. Now I wouldn't be happy with anything less than a Direct-drive wheel, high-end pedals and a good Vibe setup - yes, I am spoiled! And Happily so! 🙂

Here's the thing though, as we acquire better gear and if our interest is there, our enjoyment of Sim-racing can actually increase (maybe exponentially even) as we become more immersed through the application of more advance hardware using better and more effects.  It's really amazing what we can have in our own homes today, and then add to that - VR.

If you are in the UK, the G29 and G920 are reasonably priced in PC World, at around £180 and i get on fine with my G29.

I have a glass-topped desk, so to avoid the risk of a disaster with the wheel clampled to that, i bought a wheel stand pro 2 and it's awesome.  I have a G29 shifter also, as especially for DiRT rally, the paddle-shifts can be a bit awkward to use when you have fed the wheel through your hands a few times.  The paddles are fine for track racing though.

I have t500RS with f1 addon wheel.  Great step up from g25 then g29.  I wouldnt go back to a logitec now.  The feedback and smoothness ifs superior imo..

It really depends on kind of games (sim/simcade/arcade) and of course your wallet.

It also depends on how much dedicated and time you think you'll spend racing.

You can have hours of fun with a G27 found on ebay for 150$
Or you can go for a direct drive wheel from Leo Bodnar and spend around 4k$ (without pedals)

Check the Youtube channel "Inside Sim racing" they made a complete review of every wheel on the market.

I would recommend you to buy a cheap one to start then upgrade if you are really enjoying racing.
Do not hesistate to ask more questions 😉

I think I read that they replaced the plastic gears with metal ones in the G27, because too many were breaking?

The G27 also has plastic gears except they're a helical cut, unlike the square cut on the G25. This made it a lot quieter.

I'd recommend Fanatec Clubsport stuff, it's been good to me, but will cost you one or two of your more useful limbs or internal organs to get a set.

The Fanatec CSW2 is pretty nice - not Direct-drive nice but, the overall hardware has a high-end quality to it that the plastic wheels don't have. It's a good option if you want better quality but, not DD prices. If you want the lowest cost turn-key DD wheel, SimXperience offers a stripped-down AccuForce without the button-box and quick-release that is a little more than a nice Fanatec CSW2 setup.
