CV1 owners - do you leave the Rift plugged in?

Someone mentioned in a recent thread that the Rift has a sensor, so that it switches off when not in use.  Can anyone confirm if this is the case? i.e. can you leave it plugged in to both USB ports and HDMI, without it receiving power (and heating up as they seem to do?)

Thanks

I've noticed that will still appear to be on sometimes when it is just sitting on my desk, but I leave my computer off when I'm not gaming on it.

EDIT: It is not on when my computer is off.

@ mrgrumpie - I think theres only been one report of overheating so best not to tag it as a general problem when it isn't!!

I leave it plugged in. It has a proximity detector that senses when you put it on... then switches itself on. However, even when you're not wearing it and it's in standby, it still get's a little warm on the top.

I'd prefer it if it was taking near zero power in standby as per most kit these days.

Edit.... in fact in the EU, standby power use must be 0.5W or less... now that's got me wondering!

It takes power to run the sensor, but it's minimal.  The heat comes from the screens which are off when not in use.  I got mine yesterday and I am leaving it plugged in

I'd like to know what 'minimal' is. The warmth i'm feeling is coming from the sensor area, but it feels like more than 0.5W of heat.

It can't be using too much power can it?  USB Spec is a max of 1 amp at 5v, isn't it?  So, 5 watts?

I think it's 1.5A if USB is in battery charging mode but yes, still small amount of power really

incidentally my mobo has battery charging option on... wonder if CV1 still works if I switch that off

I said heating up, not overheating.  Heat is generated through the Rift being in use AFAIK

You can leave it plugged in. The proximity sensor will put it to sleep when not in use.
