Can I upgrade my desktop to get Oculus?

Schwarz
Honored Guest
It says I need a Intel i5-4590 CPU and a NVIDIA GTX 970.
I've already got a Intel i5-4460 CPU and a NVIDIA GTX 750.

Is it possible to just buy those components, or will I run into problems because the motherboard isn't compatible with them? Or are there other limitations as well. The desktop is fairly new, it's a Levono with 8 GB RAM, Windows 10 and USB 3.

What motherboard do you have? If you don't know then run cpu-z.

Change the gpu only and you are good to go. Also check usb compatibility with the Oculus tool.

@EliteSPA. I've got USB 3.

Will I need to get new fans, or something like that, in order to use the new GPU?

I believe this will answer your questions: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-E-H-K-M-Q-Y-and-ErazerX/Upgrading-a-lenovo-k450e/td-p/2244694

I agree, upgrade the CPU and you should be able to get by for awhile - then in a few months you might find a good deal on a new GTX 1080 and be able to make a solid upgrade. (Or buy someones 980ti for cheap after they upgrade.)

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

@GenetixStudio, you write that you agree with upgrading the CPU. EliteSPA recommended upgrading the GPU. Something I missed?

CPU should be fine. Upgrade your GPU. You shouldn't need additional fans for the tower for the new GPU as the GPU will have it's own.

And since you'll be upgrading your GPU, you might as well future-proof yourself and go with that new shiny 1080 card.

Wait a bit and buy the 1070.
