Can any Elite Dangerous beta players confirm something?

Elite Dangerous seems to be rather unique in that it offers an in-engine side-by-side stereoscopic mode (which is far superior to 3D Vision in that it actually works). If anyone here is in the beta can they confirm whether or not game performance in 3D SBS mode is similar to performance in DK1?

I only ask as I'm getting surprisingly good performance out of the SBS mode on a passive 3D display at 1080p and I'm curious as to whether I should take this as a promising indication of how well it will work on the DK2.

Not being able to answer you directly, I will say yes, since the Oculus driver overheads would be insignificant (including warping).

EDIT : hmm maybe not entirely, since the Rift requires a larger frame buffer. I don't know exactly how big, but I'd suspect something in the order of a 1440p sized framebuffer. Or even, if you could render on two 1080p screens 3D SBS, that would be more representative.

I have elite Dangerous beta.
My computer
AMD FX 8150
Asus R9 290 (1x)
8GB Ram
Win7 64

1920x1080p
  The dock
3D SBS 35 fps
No SBS 60 fps
  in space
3D SBS 70fps
No SBS 90-120 fps

I'm sorry if that's what you do not, but I do not speak English.

Doh i've just bought a 290 tri-x for E.D standard beta and thought i'd be playing at higher than 35fps in the DK2

looks like its going have to be played on the lowest settings then

Is that fps at high settings?

Is that to downsample with warping to 1080p without leaving any black borders? Is that configurable somehow for end users, i.e. could I choose to have a smaller frame buffer and more performance, but with black borders, or more peripheral vision with lower performance?

I think you will be fine with a 290, once the game is optimized. The next large update prior to beta should see some fps increase (hopefully). I play with a 280 and currently it's fine with dk1. Shaping up to be a great game.

I am running a similar rig but with:

Core i5 4670k
R9 290

I will have to double check, but I am pretty sure I was playing with DK1 at 1080p and 3D SBS, since this is really the only way you should be playing.

For me on most levels I was getting 80-100+ FPS. Now the asteroid levels were buggy and in those the FPS would drop to around 30 FPS unless I turned down the graphics. Even then these levels just seemed to be buggy.

Oh nvm. He covered that. Yeah the docks and asteroids have some issues.

And yeah I am probably getting closer to 60-70 fps at 1080p in 3D SBS in space levels with DK1. But that should be plenty good for DK2. That is with all the graphical options minus shadows maxed out so in space this game actually runs pretty damn well.

You could even turn down some graphics and likely get your average above 75 fps for DK2 which is better than most demos and betas.

A heads-up; the person mentioned 35 fps in the dock, but that's only when you're in the station itself. The frames drop quite a bit in there, and everyone gets it. I'd say that once the game comes out, that problem won't be as prominent. Also, by me turning down some settings (I play at 5040x1050 on a 280x), I was able to get mostly 60 fps in the station, with far less frame drops.

So atm, I'd say the only worry you have right now is when you dock. And it seems if you turn the settings down far enough, it may not even be a worry.
