I never know what to pick! There never seems to be a resolution that matches the output of one of the Rift's channels. Surely anything else must require processing ergo less performance...
Is there an official stance on this? Windowed/ full screen/borderless?
These settings deal with the window or screen that's mirrored to your desktop, so something that makes it usable there while not going to extremes as that probably would cost performance.
Sure. What I was asking was for an optimum setting. If the gfx card is scaling down, does it make much difference how much? Is there a scale or resolution ratio that will have the least impact on performance?
Also, If it costs performance, why can't we turn it off?
It probably entirely depends on the game. Some don't mirror. Some mirror what's rendered to the Oculus. Personally I've not seen big performance differences with any settings I chose, but I didn't test it extensively as I tend to keep it at low resolution (with ideally an ultrawide aspect ratio in my case but nowhere near the full 3440x1440 resolution).
