Can you get used to VR?

I never been a motion sickness type of guy, but I gotta say this thing is getting to me! However fantastic and realistic the experience is, riding roller coasters or sudden head movements making me nauseous and weird feeling. Does that ever go away, will my brain eventually get used to it or this is something that once you prone to the feeling it never goes away?

I too get motion sickness fairly easily, it was rough the first few days but mine seemed to settle down ok after around 7-10 days. Does not bother me all that much now and have been using it just over 2 months,

Yeah you get immune to it, baby steps is the key...Nothing gets to me now, but it wasn't the case back when I had the DK2
I am a spacesim/flightsim/racesim enthusiast first 🙂 I9 9900k@5.0, 32gb RAM/ 2080ti Former DK2, Gear VR,CV1 and Rift S owner

Most of the people get used to it. For example to me was very diffecult to play artificial locomotion games at the bigging and after 2 months now I can play them up to an hour without any signs of motion sickness. There are lot of methods to help yourself, for example don't play after you eat or use ginger pills or candies (ginger helps in general with motion sickness) and other methods too. The most important thing though is that you have to be patient, it doesn't come from one day to another, it needs time and don't try to fight it , the moment you start feeling motion sickeness coming , take off the headset take a rest and continue later.

Also think about how you are doing it.  I am having trouble with Ripcoil, but after watching a friend play I realized that I was moving just my head side to side.  That really screwed me up.  He was moving at the hips.  I tried that last night and while I still felt a bit off balance, I didn't feel nauseous.  Try to get more of the appropriate motion in your body - it seems to help the brain cope.

Try drinking ginger tea before going into VR and then build up to longer sessions. I don't personally get any VR sickness, I seem to be immune from it. I do regularly drink green tea with ginger powder throughout the day anyway. Not sure if that helped me get used to VR without experiencing the effects; but ginger is proven to help with motion sickness.

Yes, to a certain degree it will go away. For example i can now play some artificial locomotion games and i can do intensive flights such as rolls and loops in elite or eve valkyrie. But i would never try a VR rollercoaster, that is just bad. I tried it once and had to take the headset of after about 10 seconds, with a feeling of nausea lasting many hours after that.

Just skip the rollercoasters entirely, and give yourself time to adjust to whatever games you play. If you feel uneasy, just take a break right away. This way you will be immune to most of it in a couple of months.

I have Menieres Disease, and I am very prone to motion sickness. Full motion games are totally out for me. Examples are the ISS game, any flight game, and even Ripcoil. As long as the game hasTP movement I'm okay, and real movement ( like a sports game such as Holoball or 11 Table Tennis,a favorite of mine) is great.
One thing you might try is taking meclizine, which is an OTC travel sickness drug. It's a cheap generic if you buy the Kirkland brand on Amazon, or it can be found in drugstores as a Non-drowsy Travel  Medicine, but expect to pay a lot more there.

and even Ripcoil

Hah. Dont feel to bad about this one, the motion in ripcoil in my opinion was more jarring even than the ISS game or a stick locomotion FPS. I totally lost my balance and almost my lunch as well : p
