If customers buy a game from us, I don't care if they mod it to run on whatever they want. As I have said a million times (and counter to the current circlejerk), our goal is not to profit by locking people to only our hardware

I think Oculus may have a problem when Steam allows any VR heaset to use it's games. I'm buying a CV1, but I'm certain there will be other headsets available in the not to distant future. I want to be able to play the games I've purchased on these new headsets.
Yep, I can see why that would be important to many people. It wouldn't surprise me if this kind of thing became mainstream, after all, nobody expects to be able to play PS4 exclusives on the Xbox One. I'm not saying it's the same with PC VR, or that it's right, I'm just saying it's possible.

As it's early days you can surely expect parties to try.
if it doesn't work, changes are easily made.
I suppose if Oculus starting pulling some truly amazing games/apps out of it's hat, we'd expect to see some kind of exclusivity lock down. Killer apps have sold millions of consoles over the years, nobody would ever expect to see Sony give Microsoft the rights to the Uncharted series, nor will we ever see Forza on the PlayStation, and rightly so. We're talking IPs and serious business decisions.
I don't know how I feel about this topic at the moment. Would I consider buying another HMD if my existing games didn't work on it? If the games/apps on the new HMD were high quality, then yes. It's the exact same thought process I'd use when looking at games consoles. But then would I buy the latest GPU - hoping to relive previous titles with better IQ/performance - if I had to buy my favourite games again? Nope.
It's a tough call for any company when it comes to exclusivity. Ultimately, profit will dictate.

Why are there so many threads everywhere of Vive Players hating on the Rift? Look I just ordered a rift and let me tell you it wasn't easy. I didn't really know which one to get, but my gaming instinct told me to go with the rift. I want to see both headsets succeed, but let's face it people this is a business. If so many Vive players hate the rift so bad than why do they even want to bother with the rift titles? I can't say that I've see many if any Oculus players bashing the Vive, but on the other side of the coin it's out of control.Everytime there's someone else saying I've just cancelled my Rift order, and now I'm head over heels with the Vive. Get over it people. Like what you like but please stop the hating..

I've supported Oculus since the kickstarter. I own a DK1 and a DK2, my CV1 is due to ship in 2 weeks time.
I'm still excited for VR but have no desire to deal with Oculus any more, thanks to their ridiculous attempts to prevent their games running on the Vive.
I always had a soft spot for the Rift. It showed possibilities and promised the opportunity to hack around inside VR. Since then it's turned into a walled-garden with a carefully sanitised experience. Sniping at other VR users is nothing short of petty.
It's doubly galling since I've now paid three times for a headset that I thought would be worthwhile. More fool me.

I had a lot invested in the Rift, so when the Vive came out, I thought I'd stick with what I knew. The specs were similar and I could wait for touch controllers. This latest stupidity has tipped the balance.
So, the Vive is ordered and I'm off to cancel my CV1. I hope some others feel the same way I do and vote with their wallets. I guess we'll see...
