I know you are getting a lot of grief over the price and pre-ordering web failures, but it must be really exciting for you to have reached this significant milestone, and I want to congratulate you on that! and thank cyber for taking the time to visit the forums as always to answer questions and resolve issues. Respect for putting you neck out on a day like today! I'm really looking forward to recieving my order, and feel a new sense of motivation to get on with some dev work again now that the product is so close to being in consumers hands. It's exciting to know we are right at the start of such a revolution! Thanks.

What does that even mean...
We are actually going to rename the DK2 to the PDBTIYANAD2 (please don't buy this if you are not a developer 2). -cybereality

ignore the hate, it'll die. oculus is finally out and people are complaining, of course. (although, to be fair, because of europe's shit dollar and distance, they got screwed.)

Well first the Euro is slightly stronger to the USD (1 Euro is 1.08 USD as of today). It's distance and import more than anything I'm sure. As for the domestic price, I can understand if people are upset, as they've kept pushing the lower price point over and over. In my opinion they shouldn't have included the xbox controller and that remote day one. At least they should offer the base model and let people get along with mouse/keyboard if they want. It is a PC peripheral after all.

Congratulations Oculus. I am sure it seemed like it took a long time to get here but really it hasn't been that long since Palmer was showing a taped together prototype. I know, you will get a lot of flak for the price. I hope it doesn't hurt early adoption but I feel you did what you could do and choosing between price and the best headset you could make to launch this thing I think you did the right thing. I and now some of the friends I convinced with DK1 & 2 shared high fives and emails in the last few minutes. We are excited, because we got our orders in and now we know it is just a matter of time before we go out to the mail box and VR, true commercial VR, will be waiting for us. Thank you. It will only get better from here.

A loyal customer and yes, fan of the Oculus team,

I remember when those LCD shutter glasses came out in the 90s and never took off. Couldn't afford those back then, I am glad I am in a position to order this now.

I think the pricing is spot on. I don't see how something like this could be sold for less than a cell phone.

Congrats, Oculus! Its a good time to be alive!

They haven't reached the milestone yet. They'll have reached the milestone when it is possible to pre-order successfully. It seems a bit premature to celebrate it now.

Simple and he's correct. It IS a scam and take that from an ex oculus fanboy.

CV1 is not the VR you've been waiting for. Oculus know this. Yet with Valve and Sony breathing down their necks they have to act fast, get out what they have (why else do you think they are not waiting for touch to be ready?), and release at a STUPID HIGH PRICE (the actual costs are prob around £150 yet they are charging £500 - nice joke oculus).

anyway, stupid people/early adopters soak up SOME of this high priced junk and oculus knowing they wont sell THAT many vs if it was at $350 works out great for them at this time. Why?

cos they don't want the support hassle nor do they want CV1 (with crap input) out there setting the 'standard'. So instead they release this half assed CV1 to soak up MUCH of the hardcore cash and at a price that will stop many buyers from also being able to buy Vive or PS VR! So they have now locked you into the oculus system.

Valve release vive, no matter if higher or lower cost it'll be MUCH better (we all know this - thanks to the included input alone which is vital for good VR), sony do quite well with their thing, then.... based on ALL THE CASH you gave oculus that they banked (and earned massive profits off cos the units cost about £150 if that to produce) they go all out on CV2 (the real rift) which will be able to out do Sony (from a design/ergo/software standpoint) and Vive (from tech standpoint) and do it by january next year...

this way Oculus see that they come out laughing, they soaked up ALL the hungry money at the start AND are around at the end to go real mainstream with a better product. It's tactics and anyone who buys cv1 at these stupid prices are allowing them to do this. This is facebook 101, dirty tricks... a scam.

The clue is in the price. It's all you need to know. Touch isn't ready and until it is, and packed in with rift, then oculus VR isn't ready. They know it and those sane ones of us know it. Don't get desperate yet, hang out another 6 months to a year and you'll see.

Meanwhile those of us who wait will probably get Vive + a much better CV2 for no much more than you guys pay for your 'jazzed up DK2' and in a matter of months.

I hate that price, but still i understand it.
new tecnology, horrible taxation (i'm from italy and i order from the US from time to time, i know taxation in shxt) i've preordered it aniway, and i'm already pushed to may for the expedition... and i was just 2hrs late on the preordering start...
I don't really think this is going to be a failure... unles they had very very very little expectations wile preparing the first "bunch" of product...
