So couldn't sleep last night (work stress) , so was doing some research for an ad campaign for a client, and lo and behold I completely forgot about the epic ad campaign by maxell back in the day. I thought, hey ... this works so well for OR ... so here it is ... it's just a doodle so not amazing ... but you get the idea 🙂

here is the old maxell ad

Why don't they make equipment like this any more, it was so solid, each dial had that silky smooth feel to it, it oozed quality ....... the audio was just ... wow ..... (this is before your lossy mp3's kids) .. i miss the days
Now this sort of stuff is made in small quantities for the hipster crowds ... bah humbug

I cried a little when Harmon Kardon and Yamaha amps showed up at Future Shop. They sold out and went from high end to bulk distribution. Hell, I saw Denon amps with Kenwood parts, and even Onkyo started selling their low end at FS.
I love my Paradigms though. For any Canadians out there, you won't find better speakers for the price. They're expensive, but they're amazing for what you pay. Canadian built, at their factory in Toronto (last I checked).
One of my old favourite demo songs. (NSFW lyrics) Despite the fact it's compressed to hell and on youtube, this still sounds fantastic even if you don't find a high end version.
My other demo favourite is NIN's surround version of "Right where it belongs". The transition when they strip the filters and the audience cheering surrounds you (3:03 mark) always gives me chills. Every. Time. Youtube doesn't do it justice.

Stackable Hi-Fi I miss thee .... LP, Radio Tuner, Amp, Tape deck, CD deck, Equaliser ..... all layered like a giant 4 foot audio cake ....
Oh and obligatory giant meters, these things used to be crown jewels of any living room ... now its an iphone docked to some crappy sound bar ...... sniff

I haven't heard something as good as my daddy's +40 years old HI-FI for a good time. I'm not an audiophile, so the way I describe the difference with digital audio era is that the old HI-FI feels like big, smooth waves that are powerful and gentle at the same time, whereas current audio equipment feels like small, spiky and aggressive waves that make sound extremely crisp and clear but unpleasant to hear at high volume.
