I've been somewhat curious to know why processing/shipping seems to have slowed down factually or perceptually so I decided to look into it.

First, I have to know when pre-orders started, March 19th according to the link below.

Secondly, I was curious to know when they started processing/shipping dev kits. According to Road to VR it was July 23rd.

Ok, so we have two dates established thus far. March 19th, pre-ordering began and July 23rd pre-orders begun to process/ship. So that means obviously, from March 19th to July 23rd were the pre-order dates. That's 127 days of orders.

I know the numbers are estimates but there was something like 45,000 pre-orders up to that point.

According to the below post, by September 11th they shipped (roughly) orders up to June 26th.

To recap, from July 23rd to September 11th they shipped roughly 100 days of pre-orders and are up to June 26th give or take a few days.

On September 12th, according to the link below they shipped the majority of pre-orders(which is factual according to the information above)

According to this post by October 10th they've processed up to August 8th(I know this isn't the case for the entire world)
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=14405&start=1680#p207359

March 19th-June 26th shipped by Sept. 11th
June 26th-August 8th shipped by October 13th

So with the above information, the obvious is clear. They have slowed down, but only just. Honestly I think they deserve a bit of congratulations. Shipping 45,000 pre-orders in a span of 3 months is impressive a company of it's size. Nonetheless, they have slowed down. I'm not sure about the trend of orders, whether or not March-July had the majority of orders compared to August-Current. This number would have to come from someone working at OculusVR. I think it would be a somewhat accurate assumption to say that more people ordered from March-July than from August-Current. Which does lead me to question why there is a slow down if they indeed see every person that ordered as an important part to the success of VR.
