!DK2 SUPPORTED IN OCULUS HOME!

VizionVR
Rising Star
A dev posting on r/Oculus has just confirmed that he was able to not only access Oculus Home with his DK2, but downloaded Henry and Lost using the DK2.

The dev went on to state that he's using a beta version of the software. It's still unknown if the final version of the software will remove or continue support for DK2s, but for now it definitely works.

Isn't it actually kinda essential that the DK2 will work with SDK 1.0? There will still be people developing with it for a while that might not have CV1 yet, maybe living in countries where it won't even be available anytime soon.

Yeah, this is why I felt it would still work. We've been told in the past, they wanted people with DK2's to still be able to develop for the Rift once it's launched. But I guess that is a little different to whether Oculus Home picks up the DK2 and works with it. Anyway good news from this thread so far, it seems!

The only thing that bothers me is, why haven't people been told their DK2 will work with Oculus Home? You would of thought DK2 owners should of been given this information by now. Why keep information such as this away from people who purchased this device?

Because Oculus are absolutely, completely and utterly terrible at establishing a constructive dialog with their user base. There is a culture of ignoring questions and withholding information here and it's infuriating for many of us. Unless you're a developer interesting enough to be on their radar you never seem to get answers beyond basic support queries and they rarely take the time to provide the clarification and information you and I would've thought common sense and pertinent to be sharing with customers.

Surely you know this, having been on these forums for so long!

To be fair I think part of it is they just don't spend enough time on their own forum. Cyber is doing his best I'm sure, but I wouldn't assume he's privy to all the information either, and we almost never see anyone else from Oculus on here answering questions. Honestly you've a better chance at getting questions like these answered on Reddit or Twitter or something which is kind of laughable (Reddit's threading system is glorious though, I do wish more sites adopted that kind of structure for their forums).

I do know all this, but when someone ignores yours questions, you actually start to question why you are been ignored. You just don't expect such valid questions to be met with a wall of silence from a company you have purchased something from. In-fact, this particular topic should not have even started of as a question, Oculus should of told people by now if there DK2 were going to work with Oculus home.

Very well put. You're preaching to the choir my friend, many of us feel this way. Not good is it? 😐

No, not really. When your questions are ignored, first you think about why.

The dk2 was released for development.
Even oculus team was recommending NOT to buy the dk2 if you're not a developer.
Consider the fact they might have not decided if dk2 will get the runtime 1.0 or not.
I don't see a reason why they "should" answer a question about a devkit's usage for anything else than development.
It would be a nice gesture from the oculus team to let us know but I'm pretty sure they have craptons of other things to do than to bother about silly things like these.
There are just things that are more important. Manufacturing, packaging, shipping, grand opening, touch, and many more.

I have ordered a CV1 and was one of the lucky few to get my order in within the first minute of orders going live. Even I would hope that the DK2 works with 1.2/1.3 as I'll be using the DK2 for testing on a second machine in tandem with the CV1 on my main computer. I'd also like to use it for LAN/gaming parties.

With just over a week to go they would be in one hell of a mess if things like Manufacturing, package and shipping weren't already sorted out. Can I also point out there have been other questions asked that also are met with a wall of silence. People asking for a shipping date..etc. Are these also silly things to be to bothered about?

Consider the fact that developers will want to know if DK2 will get 1.0, but thats' something else that hasn't been answered yet. I just hope in 2 weeks time that all these things become much more clearer.
