HI I would like to know if there is an option in oculus software to track additional 4 points in space? I mean I would like to create a sex toy in my spare time that would be tracked by occulus camera to give the corect position of things. Now is it possible? Could occulus add some Unity methods for things like that? Yes I know that the device would have to have integrated trackin leds and so ON, thats fine.Iam mostly interested in software part
Another way to go: Valve have just opened Lighthouse tracking to 3rd party devs. https://partner.steamgames.com/vrtracking/ You can register with them and get a kit with example tracked object, 40 sensors, circuit boards for prototyping, etc. However in order to apply you must attend a $3000 in person training session first.
I've looked around. And it should not be too dificoult to do with HTC vive lighthouses. https://www.triadsemi.com/. vive uses around 32 sensors for HMD and 20 for Hand Controlers .For now 1CM costs around 7$ and we need 20 of them+ we need IMU, Microprocessor and FPGA. So for Today to make a masturbator prototype with corect tracking it would be like 160$ for tracking+ some cash for cool masturbator you would like to use with + shipping and tax costs.+if we want to go crazy some other stuff like ardurino controlers and other things. Mass market ready?
There is definitely a huge potential for this. I had the exact same idea like many others too probably 😉 A few IR LEDs would be good enough, plus an arduino to control it and maybe an IMU although that wouldn't be really needed. I'm also waiting for news on making constellation tracking open.
A tracked and motorized "fleshlight" you strap on could give you a sense of "presence" for your private parts. Just like the research for tactile feedback devices to feel objects in VR you could have a 3D character touch you and you'd get precise and plausible feedback as you or the 3D character moves. Touching with hands wouldn't be the main purpose though.
Realistic visuals, facial motion capture and cleverly programmed animations (reveries haha) are essential. Plus sounds help a lot as well as a reaction to what the player is doing. Sensing breathing and heartbeat could also be used to guide a kind of "tantric" experience 🙂
But you'd both need complex hardware and software for this to work well. Both need to be good. It's the future no doubt, but until you can demo it it will be hard to convince people. I've actually made a prototype like 15 years back in this area with IK animation and realistic 3D skinning and rendering (at the time). But it was very hard to get funding in the adult industry for something expensive like this. They are used to cheap budgets and not long term and costly investments.
There are also ethical concerns about addiction, impact on society, privacy etc.
