Read this article:

So according to this article, Oculus stole pretty much everything from Valve and are more or less doing everything wrong in regards to having an open VR platform. Does anyone know if this is correct? I must admit after reading the article I started thinking about selling my Rift and buying a Vive instead 😞

Did Oculus rip off Valve?short anwser: no.
They showed that low persistence, excellent tracking, and a well-calibrated and well-tuned system enabled presence, and shared that knowledge with Oculus.

Super old news that isn't relevant to people that was watching it happen. Vive show off a old QR code design that failed hard. That's one of the reason why they went laser base system. That system wasn't around when they went to go see Valve at the time. So no.. it's not.
But Alan Yates wrote: "…Oculus has their own CV-based tracking implementation and fresnel lens design but the CV1 is otherwise a direct copy of the architecture of the 1080p Steam Sight prototype Valve lent Oculus when we installed a copy of the “Valve Room” at their headquarters. I would call Oculus the first SteamVR licensee, but history will likely record a somewhat different term for it…".
That sounds like more than just an old QR code design?

What about the integrated DAC and headphones? Spring loaded rigid side straps? What about the use of fabric for improved cooling?
What about the SDK? To be successful a HMD has to provide holistic solution. Software is a huge component.
So really, other than the two screen setup and an IMU (which all headsets have) what was "directly" copied?
seems like the only thing they are hanging onto are the low persistence and the idea you need to drive at 90hz+ which can you even be mad at oculus at 'ripping off'. If something a good idea and works then why would you try to use something else just to be different. You don't need to invent the wheel twice.

To put simple for everyone: Because it's on the internet it must be true = Read up on what actually happen and not just go off one article that has no sources or real proof.
