Does VR-sickness conditioning help with sea-sickness?

I am very prone to sea sickness (get it even on the big cruise ships) so was instantly affected by the Rift.  I have since followed the recommendations andslowly built my tolerance to almost indefinite time.  This has me wondering if it will help me next time I go out to sea.  Anyone with actual experience here?

Motion sickness and simulation sickness are different.  I don't suffer from motion sickness, but I feel nauseous, hot and sweaty, and look deathly pale and ready to vomit after spending too long defying gravity in VR.

Just suck it and see, but if you find that it hasn't cured the sea sickness, stop sucking. 🙂

Really depends on the variety of motion sickness you get. Plus, some people can adjust to it, some can not. (Seems to also be true with VR, there's different varieties each triggered by different things.) The only way you can find out is to jump on a boat or ship and test if there has been any change... You may be able to adjust to what triggers it in VR, but that might not be the same thing triggering your sea-sickness.

I've never suffered sea sickness and I've crossed rough seas on ferries and been on a small boat on the sea. Even vertigo was very slight with me but when I tried the Oculus I suffered really badly from both. Its the reverse of your question but its odd how sensitive I was. I am getting better but on some games I still suffer badly from it. Some people say it relates to the frame rate with faster frame rates causing less sickness. I found this when comparing the DCS Nevada map to the simpler DCS Black Sea  maps. Its wierd also that you don't hear from people suffering sickness when using FPV (First Person View) goggles used on RC aircraft. I also have no issues using FPV goggles.

I wouldn't have thought that it would have any sort of affect at all. Motion sickness and simulation sickness are completely different. You could even say that they're opposites because one is caused by motion and the other is caused by lack of motion.

Thankfully I'm immune to both!  😄

I get motion sickness easily.  I don't think it would be the same.  I take Dramamine, and you being prone to this I'm sure you've taken it as well.  The reason I don't think it would work is because Dramamine causes the hairs in your ear to go straight so the movement on the boat isn't nearly as noticable.  Those hairs in your ears are not being effected the same way in VR.  So... Dramamine should have no effect on feeling sick in VR since the nausea isn't caused by the same thing.

The only thing that worked for me on a boat aside from Dramamine was looking straight down at the floor and covering my peripheral vision with my hands.

It sucks!

Only had motion sickness couple of times in cramped vehicles with no way to look outside.
But that got better and eventually just disappeared.

So far the majority of software i'm doing ok, but EVE: Valkyrie? omg... i can't play this...
5 minutes or so and i'm also nauseous, sweaty, pale. Just have to take the headset off 😞
Not that i'm an expert in that field but i did try acclimitize, the longer i wear the headset the longer i feel uncomfortable afterwards, in such a way that i don't even run the game anymore.

Playing Omega Agent on GearVR gave me thesame sensations but they set in much later and i could probably get better with pauzes every half an hour, which is suggested anyways.

When i tried standing i got no improvement either, seemed to make it a lot worse.
Brain must be very confused giving me such problems lol

No thanks, no more Eve for me...

do you use the shoulder buttons a lot in Eve?  If so, try it without pressing them too much and see if your stomach feels any better.  My son was fine on the game until he started pressing those buttons and then had to leave game very rapidly.  Or maybe he's just odd.  😉

Guess he's not the only one 😉
