Does anyone think hand tracking will come to rift platform?

I think it will eventually.

Personally though, having tried it with the Quest, I'm happy to wait until the next generation of hardware (hopefully) makes it more usable than it is, meaning more accurate.

Each time I give it a go, I kind of get frustrated and pretty quickly revert to controllers. Games that just rely on hand positions are maybe more feasible but interacting with menus and such is a bit hit and miss at the moment in my opinion.

Dunno, hopefully.

The Facebook Reality Labs - research dept published an article early this month on MEgATrack handtracking.  Their Hand Tracking system is supposedly running on a desktop processor and mobile processor.  In the video below, you'll also clearly see the system being demoed is a much more advanced version of the Hand Tracking currently available for Quest users.

Eventually? Yeah. I'm hoping they add more functionality to it though, such as being able to use it to actually type using the hovering keyboard.

Doubt it.  Oculus has pretty much abandoned the Rift S.

^^^^I fully expect the Rift S to join the Gear, CV1 and Go at this point now that FB are walling up their Quest ecosystem completly into FB.

Uhm, unless Facebook has announced something new that I'm unaware of, Quest users are no going to be no more "walled in" then they currently are. Actually, it sounds like they'll eventually get some official support for accessing their steam and Rift libraries while in stand alone mode based on what some people have apparently found while digging through the version 20 update. Using Link, they'll still be able to access their entire PCVR library, regardless of if it's Steam which storefront they used to buy it.

How is this walling up the Quest ecosystem completely into Facebook? You will need a Facebook account to set up your new Oculus devices after October 1st, but existing ones can continue on as they have been until 2023 without signing up for Facebook. If you do decide to create that dreaded Facebook account to keep using your Oculus headset with full functionality, nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to use the social media side of Facebook. You can continue on as you have been with no change. Facebook will continue collecting all the same data they've been collecting for the last six years, you'll still not be posting on Facebook, so all around nothing will change except the name of the account from Oculus to Facebook.

If you don't link/create a facebook account, you'll continue to not have the social features that are already gated by linking one. You'll continue being able to play your Quest and Rift games you've bought. You'll continue being able to play your Steam VR games. And Facebook will continue gathering data on you, just as they had for the last six years. Nothing will change at all.

We don't know enough yet to say for sure what functionality exactly will be lost in 2023 if you don't link a facebook account. I'm guessing it'll mean you're barred from multiplayer, but that's a blind guess.

This question is also interesting for me

@JanetteeTurnerr just in case your 9 short posts are running down the spam counter in readiness for slipping in a url, the mods look out for that kind of stuff. If they're genuine posts then my apologies, but just so you know 🙂
