EVERY ONE!!! A concerning scenario to be aware of

So this is more of a post about something to be aware of. I do not need feedback regarding this because I have done everything I need to as the parent aside from being more diligent to prevent it in the first place. But here is the deal.

So my 17 year old son was playing with his meta quest yesterday and was using the VR CHAT app. While in the app some player came up to him and stated he was an employee of meta and was informed that someone was using my sons acct to share and spread child porn though the app. This then gets my son concerned about his acct security (obviously, who wouldn’t be concerned). So this player then says that he can help him to reset his acct info to secure it. Then the person request his discord name so he can talk to him in order to go through the process to reset. So the player instructs my son to go though a bunch of step like covering the inside lenses with water and applying a couple cleaning chemicals and even then submerging it into the toilet tank will of water. Obviously to an adult this would have been caught and stopped immediately since it wouldn’t make sense. But to a minor, for some reason his went along with it, trusting the information given to him by some who is with “META”. After consulting the meta support, they stated they will never interact or contact a customer in any fashion except through the online chat. In the end the device is unusable but does provide a learning experience for him not be so trusting of strangers online. And this is a learning point for me and my spouse to be much more aware and involved in what my kids do online. Obviously we know not to trust people and stuff but with life and stuff we got complacent. But this is being shared to bring awareness to scams and trolls out there per the advice of the Meta support person I chatted with.
