Elon Musk Demonstrates 3d modeling setup, using oculus rift.

I noticed an interesting video .. it looks like Elon Musk is also rifting 🙂

This combines the need for absolutely precise control with an imprecise control mechanism. Being able to sloppily rotate and translate objects is all well and good but hand motions will likely never be used for this work.

Have you ever done any 3D CAD modeling? The idea is to give exact values with numbers and using things like grids to snap things to the right position. Even when people use a mouse they don't just draw things by hand unless it's a early sketch. The idea here seems to be that you can navigate the 3d space and get a better sense of the actual design. 3D cad programs tend to have rather horrible navigation tools. With something like this it might be easier to find the part of the model the designer needs to work on.
