Google Docs: When I say Docs, I mean the entire office ecosystem offered by Google. If you're working in a professional setup, your peers may not have the exact same office software. Google Docs gives ability to create and edit from any device. Plus live edit is a Godsent.
Microsoft Office Online: Microsoft finally launched its own free, online office suite. If you're not satisfied with Google's office ecosystem, this is a very good alternative. However, it might be a challenge to convince your peers to switch from the tried and tested Google Docs.

GIMP: It features virtually all the tools majority of non-professional will ever need from a photo editor.
