Expected Revenue for Indie Developers

What are your expectations for revenue for indie developers? Do you expect the model to be pay-per-download or ad supported (or something else)? Any projections?

Currently Oculus is not putting any restrictions on developers in terms of revenue models. For example, people have sold Rift-enabled games on Steam, or via their own website. At the moment Oculus Share is for free demos only, but we'll see what will happen down the road.

It is just a statement of fact. Wow. Everyone seems on edge these days.

That statement speaks volumes beyond its words, even for an aspie! It leaves the door open to market model restrictions, target audiences, royalties, license fees, and other scary thoughts. 😮

I don't know that everyone is on edge. I think it is more the clashing of presumably casual use of the language with people parsing statements for every nuance they can tease out.

Prefacing a statement with "currently" can be taken as a wiggle word and possible foreshadowing of changes to come since it is qualifying a statement as to when it is valid and implying/stating that it might not always be the case.

It could well be that there are changes planned that cause CR to feel the statement needed to be qualified, or it could be a simple statement of fact, qualified to emphasize that it is only valid now but saying nothing about planned changes.
But... but... but... I just NEED to know about the Baba! The Baba has me hypmotized!

It speaks nothing, except to the paranoid.

I am VERY on edge, considering cancelling my account here, after Dycus told me there are no server logs and they have no way to prove or disprove whether or not Jossos and I exchanged those fake PMs where he fraudulently accused me of calling him the 'n' word (as if an aspie could even have such a dishonest thought such as that, when we are extra tolerant of all honest people regardless of anything, and certainly not race). What puts me on edge (frightens me greatly) is that somebody as dishonest as Jossos to have made such false claims is only a short step away from composing fake PMs to "support" his scandalous claims, and if what Dycus said is true (shudder!), I cannot be part of this, despite the fact that I am supposed to get a DK2 in the first shipment in July.

So yeah, already being on edge makes even me see a lot of "between the lines" possibilites in that remark cybereality made. Like statements I make, it was probably literal, but recent experience tells me that neurotypical people commonly leave things unsaid, assuming that the reader will "read between the lines" and understand the unsaid meaning. Perhaps cybereality is an aspie too, if what he said is literally literal?

Yeah, I am paranoid as hell after the shite that transpired here recently. But especially recent emails and PMs that do not quite sync with my perception of reality...

But really, it is Gerald's "rolly eyes" icon that triggered my paranoia, so let's blame it all on him, eh?
😉

Unless OculusVR hires me, I plan to be an "Indie Dev", so any restrictions on revenue plans is of grave concern. Oculus asked for my resume, but during my decades in this industry, people sought me out based on my (people who know people) "industry wide" reputation, so I have almost no experience trying to write a resume. And how can I make it smaller than a dictionary anyway unless I just give a list of keywords that match what they are searching for, when the tech terminology changes over time? Pure research is my best skill...

So for now, probably just Indie Dev...

P.S. SpaceX asked for my resume too, but I told them they cannot afford me. Really! But I would reconsider if they offer me a ticket to Mars, or even to the moon, or perhaps even a little EVA activity in a jet pack in near earth orbit (like George Clooney in "Gravity"). Then perhaps I could get more immediately interested in "rocket surgery"...
😉

But yeah, indie dev, revenue plans, stuff like that...

I wouldn't even give another thought to those guys. Anyone with an amoeba for a brain could see what was going on there. No one who was reading that thread was fooled. Trolls will be trolls -- enough said.
