FINALLY GOT TO EXPERIENCE THE RIFT

First off Thank you Josh for bringing your Rift over.

I just want to start by saying WOW.  Here's some quick background.  I've used Google Cardboard, I've 3D Printed a holders for the cardboard lenses, and I've used Color Cross all viewed with my LG G3 and I thought the Color Cross was pretty cool.  Zombie Shooter VR was fun.  I tried to order my Rift day one and it was just a clusterfuk and ended up going through hours later (000036XXXX).  My current shipping date is 4-14 July.  My friend Josh had late August date but he was able to jump on the ones from Amazon and BAM .... he got one.  We did the unboxing at my place, connected it to my PC and it was glorious. My so called non-VR-Ready CPU didn't even flinch and anything.   Ok, on to the Meat and Cheese.  Things you need to be aware of before you freak out.  Nvidia Users who are playing on 1080p TV/Monitors like me, DSR works on the RIFT (more on this later).  So once you get your IPD and Height set and it does its Dreamdeck thing your next manually ran program should be Showdown.  The reason is so that you can see what the Rift is capable of and to set a visual Base Line for your other games.  We did Elite Dangerous and when I first ran it I was like cool but I couldn't read anything.  So my first thought was, "This Sucks".  Then I checked the resolution and it was set to 1024 x 768, I laughed and set it to 1920 x 1080.  That was a lot better.  Re-centered the view took her out of the station, let Josh take a look and we both said it could be better.  He asked if I had my DSR on.....logged out.... activated DSR.... got back in the game set the resolution to 2560 x 1440 and you could read every think.  I took my Vulture to a RES (high), found a Python and opened up a can of whip ass followed by school girl giggles because it was so easy and fun. No dizziness or anything.  I went from Vulture to Anaconda to Cobra Mk III, Viper MK IV and it was fun.  It almost felt like I was cheating because I could finally look around.  I got up out of the seat an walked around my Vulture.  I tried not to say stuff that I've heard others say but I couldn't help it.  Until you are there you just don't understand.  The inside of the ship is huge. The details in the ships are outfuckingstanding.  I can't wait to get my Rift. I told my friends that Lucky's Tale was going to be a game for my wife, but after playing it.........y'all can laugh all you want, that game was fun.  I'll be playing the shit out of it.  It looks like a cross between claymation, candy, and cake.  Just sayin' 😃  So below is info about my PC.  I am a PC Gamer so yes I overclock a little.

Do you know if applying DSR in nvidia, helps any game?... how does the game knows it will have to render in higher resolution and then scale down? I am new on that setting and dunno know how to set it up... for example for eve valkyrie.

Edit: I just got my rift too, and was thrilled with the experience, and the first game i tried was eve, and first i noticed that the god rays were kind of super strong in the dark scenes and the loading screen where the clock waiting icon shows, but then when all lights are on, it seems to go away. But i notice the graphics to be so so and a little bit blocky in the edges, then i went to the settings and saw the detail was set to medium, changed to ultra, and saw a huuuuge difference in detail. But i wonder if enabling DSR could help too, and how could i achieve it?

Say what?  Are you talking about GearVR?  This post is about Rift CV1

@IngQuikemon

Not sure about Eve Valkyrie.  I haven't received my rift yet.  I was using a friends Rift.

So I've used DSR prior to testing it with the Rift.  All of the Games that I have on and off steam picks up the added resolution.  So for you to test this just start the game with DSR active and if you have all of the DSR - Factors checked you should see resolutions that you wouldn't normally see.  I have two monitors connected to my PC 1 is a 3D 1920 x 1080 (native) and the other is 1366 x 768 (native)  DSR is a native resolution multiplier 1.2x to 4x in my case.  Giving my 1080p screen a max res of 3840 x 2160 which is where I play my games.

Now that being said, when I went into E.D. with the Rift and I set the resolution to 1080 in game, the graphics cleared up enough for me to read.  Which lead us to believe that games not made specifically for the Rift's fixed resolution of 2160 x 1200 (1080 x 1200 per eye) could be increased to or passed a little to fit the HMD.  This worked out great.  Setting the game to 2560 x 1440 worked great.  My temps went up a little on my card but nothing that it couldn't handle.  So just to test it further, I dropped the resolution to 2351 x 1323 which is still higher that the Rifts and the card ran cooler and the dip below 90 fps (not noticeable in the Rift) that I got with Max settings went away.

Thanks for the detail @Superman217 , i will try it out and see if something comes up. My native resolution on my monitor is 1920 x 1200, and i think there is no way to play with the resolution in game so i will see how it affects it and plays out. I notice though a custom option that didn't touch, i will try it out and see what happens.

It's a real shame your superpowers didn't extend to text formatting.

Your wall of text crits me for 5830 damage. I am dead.
