Facebook’s $2 Billion Acquisition Of Oculus Closes, Official

ThreeEyes

It's now in the books!

Congrats Oculus!

http://techcrunch.com/2014/07/21/facebooks-acquisition-of-oculus-closes-now-official/

Facebook now owns Oculus. The $2 billion acquisition deal of the virtual reality pioneer announced in March has been approved by regulators and today become official. The U.S. FCC’s anti-trust team greenlighted the deal in April. Now it has passed the California Department Of Corporations fairness hearing and will go into effect. The exact price of the acquisition came out to $2,001,985,000.

Not so sure about this version of the logo though (may just be TechCrunch artwork)...

But... but... but... I just NEED to know about the Baba! The Baba has me hypmotized!

Congrats!

Here is some fun, quick math:

Facebook's market cap as of today is: $178.1 Billion

Oculus cost Facebook ~1.1% of it's value (wow! sweet deal!)

If Facebook wanted to get 1 billion Oculus Rifts to it's user base (as Brendan Iribe stated was the goal in this interview: http://www.theverge.com/2014/5/5/5684236/oculus-wants-to-build-a-billion-person-mmo-with-facebook ) they could do it by cashing in their stock for Rifts, if they could use the volume to bring the price of consumer Rift to $178.10 each )

LOL, it won't happen of course, but the fact that Facebook as a high enough value that it could, in theory, deliver a billion Oculus Rifts to consumers for free is mind blowing!!! And it would probably make Facebook a multi-trillion dollar company if they did 😛 I mean, imagine the customer loyalty that gets built up with that move! And the value that could be realized in selling content.

Well, one can always dream

Congratulations guys! Now go buy some dinosaur hide flip flops or gold plated googly eyes for your office Rifts!

Seriously, quite the achievement to be such a sought after tech company to have that kind of money offered, it means Oculus's vision is one of the future.

Good to hear the Zenimax thing didn't make any trouble for the deal. Does this mean Palmer gets to go out and buy a flying boat blimp now?

It won't change much, we'll just have to conduct our discussions on Oculus' Facebook wall.
