Facebook is planning to eventually rebrand the Oculus Rift experience, redesigning the hardware and updating it with "a Facebook interface and logo."

It will. But that'll happen god damn knows when, as in not in near future.

What's wrong with rebranding anyway? You grew too attached to a piece of plastic and it's not possible for you to accept if it will look different on the outside?

If so that must be a joke.

If ANYTHING, there cannot be a better brand than "Oculus Rift", it was ALL about reputation, enthusiasm, VISION and respect and this name had and reflected this all. Why would you want to rebrand such a highly respected name?

This is like.....rebranding "Ferrari" into "Fartpoonzel" or "Booger Poopsel Automobile".

Seriously..the world has gone mad.

I honestly thought this was a joke -- that an article writer saw a redditor make a joke about turning a Rift into something book-shaped so that it could be a Face...book.

This article says it got the statement from a nytimes article, and that nytimes article says this:
According to a person involved in the deal who was not allowed to speak publicly because he was not authorized by either company, Facebook eventually plans to redesign the Oculus hardware and rebrand it with a Facebook interface and logo.

I'm willing to bet nytimes had a broken sarcasm detector and just picked that up from reddit.

Right. Because the actual product doesn't matter. It's the brand that matters. How can you be part of the in-crowd if you don't buy the right brands, right? God, people who buy off-brand stuff really piss me off!

Nice move! Wait until everybody buys the dev kit 2 and then make the deal with facebook. Thats why Palmer always said please wait until the consumer version comes out.

Is he planning a new vr glasses with the money?

A brand represents a vision. If you change the brand, you change the vision for the product. It's simple.
A brand is much more than a logo...

All the brand represents is a bunch of wild fanboys. Sane people value the product, not the brand.
