So checked my email today, and got a message sayin my rift has shipped out! Hurray its been about a 2 month wait! So I need a new video card for my desktop, and a new motherboard and cpu unfortunately. So do I get the 1080 pascal card for roughly 699.99 I believe or do I wait it out for these new 200.00 amd cards that I keep hearing about? But how long will that take to actually get? In the mean time I have a msi dominator pro g219 g-sync 980m laptop, that I read on these forums that might possibly work for my rift? on a few things?....Thoughts? Thanks alex.

By come out you mean they'll be officially announced with a release date in a month or two and probably a month or two after that you'll be reasonably likely to get one?
I'd go for the 1080. IF AMD releases a $200 video card it's likely to be garbage compared to the 1080, anything remotely comparable is going to be nearly as pricey.

I believe you'll be able to buy one on the 29th. I don't think the RX 480 is supposed to compete with the 1080. I get the impression it's supposed to replace the 970 as the entry level VR card.
To more thoroughly answer @xalex question, if you're not on a budget go for the 1080 and if you are get the RX 490. Also, as @cybereality has said many many many times laptops are not supported and probably won't work. Edit: spelling.
