If you have a game in development that you would like reviewed then feel free to drop me an email at fdreviews@gmail.com I'm always interested in seeing and reviewing new content for the rift!
Below is a list of all my oculus video reviews (newest at the top) Thanks for watching!
New Video Added To the Top of The List! (Dreams Before Dawn)
A wild float through experience of what appears to be the works of someones very vivid imagination, A very cool look at what the future can bring us for dreams combined with Virtual Reality!
New Video Added To the Top of The List! (Walking Mars)
A very simple yet effective first person experience, a calming stroll across the dusty surface of mars. I found it to be a very calming and meditative experience.
New Video Added To the Top of The List! (The Great River)
Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a Hobbit in a boat on the river of Gondor? Well if your an oculus rift owner then now you can! Check out this short but sweet demo of "The Great River"
Nice videos so far (at least the ones I've seen (and yes I've seen your Walking Mars video till the end ;))).
A word of advice though: could you get some information about the demos before recording the video? Having more information about the demo before hand would help you have a better idea about what you are expected to do.
For example in the Time Rifters video, I'm pretty sure that the character you have seen during your second run (which looked like a "real player") was actually yourself from your first run. I haven't got my DK2 yet and haven't checked this information so feel free to have a look. If it happens to be true then knowing this in advance would have helped you enjoy the demo more and it would have been useful information for the viewer.
Another idea I would like to propose you: I found your small introduction about the developer behind Pixelrift interesting. Pixelrift was about the developer's fond memories related to her early gamer's life. Knowing that helped appreciate the demo even more as it created some kind of link with the developer. If you have the possibility to share with us this kind of information again that would be fantastic.
I agree it's fun to have some back story about the dev and talk about it, but the problem is I usually jump on lots of these games right out the gate as they get released and lots of the time there isn't much info out about them yet. Developer/company names are usually available but for lots of these little "first time demos" they don't have a backstory or game history yet.
PixelRift was a bit of an exception because Ana contacted my directly to review her game, she gave me details about the game and her history. Not all developers have this info widely available on release so its sometimes tricky to find out much about them.
All my videos are my own "First Time Playthrough" of these games (other then sometimes starting them to make sure they record properly)
The reason I don't do lots of research about features/controls before playing is because I want to be able to show people how easy or hard it is for someone who has never played the game to just pick it up and start playing. Granted sometimes I miss things but usually you can get a pretty good idea about the games core concept and learning curve. Plus if I miss something obvious it usually inspires viewers to go download a copy so they can do it properly on their own rig haha
On top of that I enjoy being surprised in these demos, sharing my laughs or "WOW" as I see something for my first time is what makes the experience fun for me and for viewers. If I have already played the demo through and had these "wow" feelings then its not genuine if I say "OMG A GIANT SPACESHIP IM SO SHOCKED".. even though I completed the game prior and knew it was coming haha
I do agree with your advice and im learning more everyday to improve but I figured I would let ya know at least in my mind why I do it this way 😉
Thanks for taking the time to share your view. I'm glad to see that you have put some serious thoughts into the type of content you want to provide to your viewers. Your argumentation makes sense and I understand that knowing more about the title you are presenting goes against the type of video you are trying to create.
