Fluctuating CAD dollar. - Final price? Almost 100$ more!

Hey guys. So, I'm glad to see some life from oculus and that international shipping is being dropped on my preorder. That's fantastic. I wasn't in the first batch anyway but waiting longer is generally okay if the price is significantly reduced. Anyway - am I going to be charged $849.00+tax as it says on the site, or am I going to be charged $779.48+tax as is the current going exchange rate?

I would actually prefer to be charged in USD if the $849cad price is set in stone and take my chances - What do?

Yeah, it's a bummer, I'm in the same boat.  Think this has been brought up a few times on the forum and the final say is that we were quoted a CAD price and that's what it's going to stay as.

It's all about the oil price 🙂  Maybe oil tanks again and we end up back where it was in Jan with the exchange rate by the time the order is actually charged.  It really could have gone either way in the end.

Well if our dollar would have continue to drop Oculus would still have charged the same amount... Sometimes you win some, sometimes you loose some...

Yeah, except, I should be paying 599$ USD. All Oculus needs to do is charge in USD, like literally everything I buy from america online does ... and problem solved? The exchange rate isn't oculus's problem or concern, the rift is $599USD. It might be 4 million zimbobwae dollars, but it's still 599USD. Just charge me $599 USD. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

It's unfortunate, but if you've bought much electronics gear over the years you'll have noticed that USA and Canadian prices are rarely on par with the exchange rate.

We always pay more...

Oculus won't change their pricing practice this far in the game, and even if you were charged in USD your bank/CC or Paypal would have taken approximately 2.5% over their exchange rate which is always lower then the actual market exchange rate...So the difference wouldn't be that significant

While it sucks because of the months of delay between ordering and delivery allowing for big fluctuations in exchange rates, they gave us a Canadian dollar price, and we accepted it. People would have complained a lot more if the dollar went down, and Oculus wanted to charge more rather than stick to a fixed Canadian dollar price.

BTW, I read an article a few weeks back about Canada having the lowest car prices in the developed world because manufacturers were still charging prices they'd set when the dollar was much higher. So it works both ways.

Yep I know someone who works at a Dealership near the borders and they don't any F150 anymore, Americans just come here to grab them all

I'm in Canada and would love to pay in US dollars from my Paypal account. Please Oculus give us some options for paying here! Can't hurt you and will help us a lot.
