I saw this a couple of weeks ago and thought some of the British VR contingent would be very interested.
It looks like they released a new router in July which does WiFi 6 - this can be a game changer for anybody using Air Link.
I think it's £10 a month on top of whatever you're paying and it's called WiFi Max.
I haven't looked into it greatly but will be soon. I'll let you make your own investigations and see if it's worth it.
If you already have it, please let us know if it's any good, ta!

I was just looking yesterday at what 6e routers are available, in my case for BT.
Can't believe how expensive they are... crazy! I assume they're going to come down in price but right now, absolutely no way I'm getting one.
Interesting that Sky now have them, basically on subscription, if it's £10 a month, that sounds a lot for just a router but I guess cheaper than buying one if you upgrade your kit every 3 years! What is it with 6e prices??

Yeah I looked last year and at the time no ISP had them so looked on the forums and a lot of Sky users had gone out and bought WiFi 6 routers only to find they didn't work.
I know a lot of people would rather use their ISP supplied router rather than buy their own. I'll be a lot happier when 6e is standard though but at the moment they seem to know they can charge a premium.

Yep, my BT router has the phone port for my landline phone now that we're all switching to VOIP. Not sure which routers have that, I guess you just buy an ATA box if it doesn't... but does that take up one of your LAN ports? not sure, I need all of mine for AV kit. I need to do some investigating to replace my BT router, I have a feeling BT won't be offering a 6e router anytime soon.
Edit, mmm they have Whole Home 6 which may be a similar package to Sky and uses a wifi 6 hub, but I think 6e is what we need to get the higher speeds.

Its definitely not worth it for PC VR. By the time you add all the money you need to spend for Wifi 6 or 6E, You could just buy a real PC VR headset that doesn't have video compression or latency in the 47 to 77ms range. Where as PC VR headsets have 11ms of latency.
I was super hopeful that the new Quest 3 would solve these issues, but it doesn't look like its going to happen. Instead of connecting directly to the Display Port, they added Wifi 6E and stuck with a USB C link cable. Keep in mind to run the 6E router and get the best video compression you will need a 40 series card with AV1, and realistically, you would have to have a 4090 minimum, for best results. So, add all that money up and you still will get latency and minor video compression. That's just not worth it for PC VR. Will it work, yeah, and it will probably be a good experience, but for PC VR, you want a great experience, not good.
Meta messed up by venturing into Mixed Reality instead of focusing on PC VR. Apple is making the same mistake with Mixed Reality. Mixed Reality and AR is fun for about 10 minutes, and then you just want VR.

Well, I've said it before... I think it's a mistake for PCVR-only 'enthusiasts' to think that all headsets must be made for them and that anything else is a mistake. There are plenty of PCVR-only headsets out there to choose from.
MR isn't a mistake for everyone else who's either interested MR, or like me, a combination of MR and VR including stand-alone and PCVR. And 'everyone else' seems to be a lot of people going by all the Quest 3 reviews out there now. They all say pretty much the same thing and I've been saying it since the early days... MR has a lot of potential, way more than PCVR which seems to centre around gaming alone.
Anyway, as far as 6e is concerned, each generation of wifi improves connection and throughput, 6e is no different. That, combined with headset processor generational improvements add up to reduced compression. And when I say reduced, I've already seen how it is with my Pro, I built a new PC including 6e and there's pretty much no visible compression. Quest 3 probably has the same wifi hardware and a much better processor.

I respect your opinion, but the facts are that Mixed Reality is a failure. I don't dislike it, but it is a failure as far as sales go. We can wait and see how it goes and return to this post. I had a Windows Dev kit a number of years back, and the Mixed Reality while initially was really cool, the cool quickly wore off. It's worse than all the first VR content being tech demos.
The Mixed Reality in the Quest 3 is still not perfect and its basically fluff and a distraction, and people are not going to buy a Quest 3 or any VR headset for Mixed Reality, they want Virtual Reality. Apple's headset is going to fail miserably.
I don't think that every headset should be developed for PC users, but seeing as we were the ones that Oculus built their VR headsets for to get started, you think they would throw us a bone.
Simply adding a connection for Display Port should be something that should have been done and would easily solve the issue.
Quest 2 is the number one PCVR headset on Steam. That means that a lot of people are playing PC games, and you would think a company that started out as a PC VR designer would lean into PCVR. You would think that your next VR headset would make the PC VR experience better on some level knowing that PC VR gamers are using your product.
The main issue I have besides the Display Port, is that people with no PC VR experience think that the Quest2, Quest 3, Quest Pro is offering them some amazing PC VR experience, because they have nothing other than a Quest to base their opinion on. So, they run around in here, YouTube, reddit, and everywhere else with their one sided opinion proclaiming how amazing PC VR is on their Quests. Leading other people to purchase a Quest for PC VR. The fact is that while you can have a good time with a Quest on PC, it's by no means the way that VR should be experienced on a PC. It has terrible latency and video compression, and coming from PC VR, I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone that wants a PC VR experience.
I'm hoping you are right about 6E. I'm getting the only motherboard with true 6E Wi-Fi. The Intel® Killer™ Wi-Fi 6E AX1690. Most people probably don't even realize you need the 40 series card and a direct Wi-Fi directly on your PC for the best chance at performance with a Quest 3 for PC VR. And all of that could have been avoided with a simple Display Port connection and honesty from Meta. They want you to use your Quest on PC, but they don't want to talk about the specifications, that's all left to the community to comment on.

Agree about the Quest Pro using Air Link with a good setup - I think it's fantastic! I also use a Valve Index - I prefer the Quest Pro.
From a work point of view, mixed reality is a game-changer for me and industry customers. I firmly believe that excellent passthrough and good comfort will mean more users and longer sessions.

Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level | PCGamesN
Didn't take that long for my speculation to become reality. The Meta Quest 3 is an absolute failure. People are losing their jobs because people like you guys run around singing the praises of everything Meta does instead of using your voice to affect change.
Nobody wants mixed reality, nobody wants a Quest 3 that can't play PC VR games to its full potential. The only thing you can do after you play all the tech demos on a Quest, and after the 2 or 3 games that are worth playing, and after you are sick of Beat Saber, is to hook your Quest up to a PC.
It's just dumb that they would totally mis the mark and push towards mixed reality when they could have added a Display port connection and pushed harder into the PC VR space.
I'm definitely not getting a Meta Quest 3 for sure now. Everyone can just wait until the price drops to 299, and then just upgrade.
