Funding Ideas

I've been thinking that this technology can be used in space or under the ocean with cameras and a robotic arms. I suggest trying to get government funding through NASA and or the US Navy. It never hurts to get more money and give jobs to people like me. I would love to work for you guys testing out your technology some day.

NASA has this technology that is called the lunar laser communication that would give them a super fast network connection from the moon allowing some one to control a robotic arm that is on the moon from the earth. If they take that technology and the technology of oculus vr then they would have a more focused environment to work in.

NASA and DOD already have way more technically capable VR HMDs than the Rift. The Rift is a consumer product for consumer applications.

My 2 cents 🙂

Well, we know that Sixense is working with NASA on some stuff - so wouldn't surprise me if something like this is already happening..

I believe they have the money and the technology capable of building something like the Rift. But I don't believe they have build anything. I've always kept a eye on www.nasa.gov. I've not seen any technology being used like the Rift. I am talking about a government owned facility's. I would think Oculus VR would just patent a license so government owned facility's would have to pay for licensing use of the Rift per year. Just think the US army would pay for a license use to control their remote control airplane snipers. Sure they probably already have something that is big and bulky and a small screen. I am sure that when you make your final product they will some day come around and pay for the licensing use of the product or even make a contract with Oculus VR. Now if you don't patent the use of Rift then they will buy the Rift and pay another person to take it apart and use the technology for their own use and in the end Oculus VR will just lose a business transaction.

What do you think about them apples?

I actually doubt that before the rift was revealed that NASA had a better HMD. Sure now that they copied the idea they might have made a better one. In terms of haptic and force feedback they are miles ahead but in terms of visual feedback they did not seem to offer something as good as the rift. For 360 displays they have to use whole rooms while the rift can do that for 300$. Even things we haven't seen couldn't be any sort of amazing as most devices are built for one specific application. Remember the devices are made by everyday engineers WITH CURRENT technology and not by aliens. The only pros they have is more money to spend.

This is what I mean (from 2011):

I've also seen on TV a wide FoV HMD used for ISS training which looks very similar to the InfiniEye (on the outside) but couldn't find any reference to it on the internet.

My thinking is: "why settle for $300 hardware when you can afford spending +$25.000?" . Just like with wine, there's a direct correlation between price and quality 😉

just bought my VR. hope to receive it soon. I will be building an interface to drive my 6 axis robotic arm i built. will also integrate my Emotive head set for mind control. this will be interesting. anyone want to help with the coding let me know..

here is a link to my robot arm.

If nasa had the rift then I would imagine it would look something like this :-
