Future HMD's

So two new headsets have been announced by oculus. Both look like they are going to be stand alone wireless products. My main uses for VR are are all simulation based. IL2, and Elite Dangerous being among my favorite VR experiences.

I'd like to know, if either of the new headsets will be an improvement for PC gaming. I would be happy if CV2 was little more than a CV1 with improved lenses and display.
Wireless might be nice, but only if it can achieve a similar low latency that the cable provides.

I'm hoping that oculus might be able to re-assure the PC gamers among us that we are not being side lined.

The soon to be released Pimax HMD might be good for elite.  High res and FOV.  Who knows how the rest of it will turn out, but i can imagine it being good for that game at least 😛

I am a similar gamer, preferring primarily combat flight sims namely IL-2 and DCS.
I think the biggest thing for us coming soon is the software update, along with hopefully some performance optimizations. I am really looking forward to Dash which will change the whole way we interact with the system , namely keeping everything in VR.

For what we do, I don't think we are going to see anything hardware wise until sometime in 2019. At least regarding the Rift, some of the new players like Pimax are making some promises but will remain to be seen what they can deliver and how it will run with our type of games.

Pimax, LG, StarVR or Dephang seem to be the current options for those wanting a desktop upgrade from their Vive / CV1 option.Looks as if desktop VR will be taking a hiatus from OVR for the time being (mid 2019).

Sadly I have to agree with kevin729. I'm seeing a worrying trend towards mass market fulfillment and a move away from niche market supply from Oculus and HTC.

If this is true its a sad day and possible the end of heavily supported high end VR, which is what would it need to become successful in the long run.

In truth high end vr would take probably 5 years of continued support  and encouragement financially to developers and ongoing hardware looses in profits to bring the kind of HMDs and software we want. I don't believe any company is prepared to do that for that period of time.

It looks like the trend is now towards low cost, low friction VR.

Do you think WMR Ultimate will be the new standard for high-end PCVR?
It's a step in the right direction spec wise (HMD specs), and may be the way to go if the tracking is acceptable. The software will come.

WVR headsets are mid-range headsets, not high-end.

People REALLY need to stop worrying about Oculus 'abandoning' high-end VR. It's NOT going to happen. We'll see the CV2 being released in 2019/2020.

If Oculus bring out their next PC VR headset in 2019 or 2020, that isn't a hiatus at all.  It would be exactly what the majority of sensible people expected.

And it can't be a hiatus if you have the premier consumer HMD.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

What makes the Odyssey a mid range headset? The high resolution screens, higher FOV, or the superior optics?
The WMR Ultimate requires more PC than Rift if that counts for any kind of rating.
If it doesn't have the software yet that may be all it takes for some to discount it, but it doesn't make it mid-range by any stretch.

My perceived field of view horizontal in the Rift is approx 75° and I want something better.

Just one word: Tracking.
