Nvidia is live-streaming a reveal event to show off the new GTX 1080 tomorrow night (Friday May 6 9pm EDT). (Source)

I know a lot of us here have been waiting for the Pascal line-up, due to the graphics-power-hungry nature of VR. If the performance increase is significant, I'm going to go ahead and upgrade my GTX 980. I have a second PC that I recently built that's using an old GTX 660 Ti, so it will take the 980 when my main box gets upgraded.

Anyway, just thought you guys would like to know!

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

@ThreeDeeVision  sorry yes .. was trying to say VR SLI is there ... but big game engine Vendors tend to be slow on the uptake of thrid party API's. I mentioned this in some other post before.. it's not that it doesn't work at all ... but is currently as unpredictable and as buggy as current SLI. Having a single powerful GPU will be the best bet for a while ..

Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

Be kind to one another 🙂

Yeah, agreed. A single gpu will always be better for the time being. Just thinking about it, I don't think a 1080 and a 980 would be a good match anyway since there is a inbalance in power. One day I wish you could just keep slotting in gpus and for it to act as a single device.

How many Voodoo 2 cards does it take to get to 4K @ 90fps?

@CharlieHobbes  lol

so V2 =
90 million pixels/s
min spec 970 = 75 Gigapixels/s

Hmmm... do you have a small warehouse?

That's only about 800 to 1000 of them.

Does anyone have a spare 200.000 watt PSU lying around, or should I just hotwire them into the mains?

Also I'm gonna need a lot of link cables and a 1000 vga to 1 HDMI box.. Amazon has those right?

This can work!

EDIT: Wait. Have I just uncovered the secret Nvidia naming convention? So many questions!

I believe you are going to need this:

Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

I'm gonna do "virtually" the same, got an i5 with gtx 660, and an i7-5820 with gtx 980 ti....will drop the gtx 660 and upgrade graphics cards on both PCs....

That many voodoo cards would definitely quailitlfy for warehouse scale VR.
