Generating decent video content for cheap?

I'm trying to find a relatively cheap and simple video camera setup that will allow people to capture panoramic video on-site that can be viewed with the Rift. Ideally it would provide an experience as close to "being there" as possible -- but it's clearly not possible to get 3D, full panorama, high-def, inexpensive (ideally under $1k), and easy to carry and operate all in one package today.

3D is probably the first to go, and I may have to compromise on full panorama.

The Bubblescope (http://store.bubblepix.com/uk/bubblescope-1.html) may be the best I can do today. It's limited to 120 degrees vertical (which may mean you can see straight up but only down to 30 deg below horizon?). How do you think it would fare against something like the 360Heros rig?

Anything else I should be considering?

I've tried the Bubblescope, but there's no (easy) way to obtain the actual video file. When I try export it to my iPhone library it doesn't work. I don't know if other phones are the same. If you do try it and succeed, please say!
