Get ready for download issues.

History shows that every time new software or drivers have been released (from most leading hardware and software manufacturers) the servers have ground to a halt and we have been either kicked out half way through the download or its took an eternity to download a couple of meg.

Now the Rift is going to be released later this month as well as SDK1.0 and various pieces of software (not just the included Valkyrie and Lucky) then thousands of people will be 'trying to' downloading it all at once.
This will inevitably lead to frustration and VERY slow downloads.

I am not looking forward to that.

Lets hope I am wrong.

It all depends on how many units get shipped in the first batch...

there won't be any download issues 😛
alot of people on a website doesn't slow down a download like that, because the website owner already uploaded the file so people aen't downloading it from his computer, there were issues with the preorders because many people tried to send info to one client, just like a ddos

Just ordered some aromatherapy calming herbs and picked up a fifth of Jack after reading your post.

Thanks for the dose of reality (even if it's not reality yet.)

I think I'm staying home today. It's a dangerous world out there.

On this note, I'm a bit surprised they aren't using the DK2 community to help troubleshoot the 1.0 release prior to launch.

I am not taking off any time until both the Rift and Vive are in perfect working order.

No rush.

You do realize that is not how Networks work right? Even if the file is already Uploaded and ready to be downloaded by others, it still depends on the amount of Bandwidth available for those particular Server(s). Why do you think MMO launchers mostly use P2P or other variants of Torrent like downloaders.

Traffic is traffic, doesn't matter if it's upload or download.

Why?

I am not getting mine until June, but you can bet your bottom dollar I wont be waiting until June to download SDK1 and some games etc, to run on my DK2. I will be downloading (trying to) them upon release.

I cannot remember the last time I had that problem. I would disagree with what you have said.
