I see many people have succeeded with this, but how the blazes do you get this to work. Can someone please point me to a step-by-step guide for this? Many thanks!

Ok, so I got a little more time today to watch what is wrong in 2.04b for me. Position tracking works flawlessly, same with animations, as well as when I fly and look straight ahead / leaning forward (position tracking). The problem is when I look around from left to right or up and down, as in DK1. It makes the image jump in large steps. Almost like there are 4-5 windows that have been glued together in front of me with straight joints. I have experimented with IPD etc, but nothing works. Any ideas?
DK2, Asus X99 Deluxe, MSI GTX 970 Gaming, Intel 5820K, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 500GB SSD, Windows 8.1 updated.

DO NBOT BUY AN 880M LAPTOP. I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY IT. IOWN AN MSI DOMINATOR GT70 with an 880m, and there is a flaw with the card that NVidia has failed to address from over 4 months now. In the end, any driver (except the original ones released way back then) will make the card perform worse than a 780m (that's the previous generation. The NVidia forums are plagued by posts about this.
Now, on the other hand, NVidia just released this week the 970m and 980m. Their performance is very close to their desktop counterparts (like at 75%, which is huge). They use less power, perform better and have features to help VR.
TO put it simply, when I bought my 880m, I got the protection plan, and I already spoke to my store explaining this (and a dead pixel I got on my display), and have an approval (lets say if it holds) to return my 880m lappy and get a 980m (I might have to pay a diff, but Oh so much worth it).
Lastly, just consider this... the 880m has not been out for even a year, and the new card is already released... there is a reason for that... the 880m is crap.
Now, as far as how it plays, it does play well with full effects... but not GREAT. Basically my laptop was my main machine until I put a 970 gtx on my desktop... I fired elite.. and wow, its silky smooth. This leads me to believe that in my laptops I NEVER had 75 fps.

That sounds like the worst judder in the world, which you shouldn't be getting with your rig. It should be silky smooth, except maybe the occasional jump when in a station. I assume you're running it in extended mode and leaving the ovr service running?
It could be that your primary monitor is causing you to run at 60 Hz, that is an issue for some people. Try lowering the resolution of that so you can set it to 75 Hz.
How's your ISP? It can get pretty juddery for me when my internet is really slow, but will run fine in solo mode when that's the case.
Also check your nvidia control panel. Set things for high performance, turn off AA and ambient occlusion - see if that makes any difference.
Good luck.

Same issue .. only tutorials

I guess its the new update and E:D needs to support it.

I can't play Open or Solo without the rift either, so it's an E:D issue.
