Getting ready for my rift demo at bestbuy.

I pre ordered 1st hour and upon arriving 10 min before bestbuy opened, there were people waiting to get in with 8 guys holding rift papers. I was told the 8 who are able to buy the rift today arrived at the store at 9:00pm lastnight. RIDICULOUS. Watching them one by one walk out with their new rift, after I've waited for months, stoked my fire of irritation with Oculus... So I'm now within the next 5 min. Going to have my demo, if it doesn't compare to the vive demo I recieved last summer, today will be the day I cancel.

It was pretty good, did the dinosaur in museum, standing on top of a building, the alien on planet, the little model size town, and then a couple minutes playing the climb...the two that Immersed me the most was the dinosaur and standing on the skyscraper..the headset was comfortable but I did have a hard time when I first put it on finding the sweet spot where everything wasn't blurry ,once the rift was positioned correctly   the clarity was pretty crisp and clear....I do have to say now having tried both Rift and Vive, I'm really undecided....I sure wish there was a touch controller release date announced so a person would know how long you will have to wait to do what vive can do...in my opinion right now I feel vive is the complete better experience BUT when touch comes out rift may be better......definitely rift has some positives with the integrated headphones, easy set up, and headset ergonomics, but it really feels like its missing something without interacting with your hands in the VR environment , its incomplete, . the climb was visually nice, made you feel like you were up high, but in all honesty the play of the game felt awkward and not good using the xbox controller, ,for me its a game id wait for touch before buying. so all in all right now I think vive is definitely more impressive but only because of lack of controllers....again I sure wish I had an idea when touch was coming out because if its not coming out until end of year I would probably order vive, with integrated headphones and screen clarity along with headset weight, If those missing touch controllers were packaged in just like vive, then I think Oculus would be it, but after getting to demo both now, id say rift is nice but feels like its an incomplete VR experience compared to vive because of the missing controllers.

I'm sorry to be that guy, but did you honestly expect to show up 10 minutes before a highly desired electronic good went on sale and actually get one?  I remember lining up for 5 hours in the middle of winter on Boxing day for a disounted DSLR Canon - and I barely got one.

The Dreamdeck demos you tried are the ones I use to show my Rift to friends.  The T-Rex and the tall building are probably the best two, with the small town being a close third.  The Climb is also a big hit with my friends, but the most impressive games for me are Project Cars and Elite Dangerous.  The problem is that both of those need extra peripherals and a significant time investment - which isn't great for a quick demo.

Others have made the comment that many of the Vive experiences are phenomenal as short demos, but lack long term substance.  I know several users of this forum have Vive games they play every day, but as a general rule for both systems the best demos often end up being mediocre in the long run, and despite how amazing they initially seem.  With something like The Climb, it's naturally going to expose the fact you can't use your hands.  Play Elite Dangerous on both units and you won't realize you're missing hand controls or room scale.  Things like integrated sound or the abillity to read small text suddenly stand out.

To me, it seems like you've decided you really want hand interaction and you're unwilling to wait a few months for Touch.  In that case I'd say Vive is a better fit for your needs.  Whatever headset you pick you'll be happy.

good to read opinions on some of the other games, I think you are probably right in regard to the different type of VR game experiences, As ive only had experience trying the demo's offered and a couple minutes of the climb.... and no, LOL I really didn't have expectations of walking in and buying one,I was actually more curious how many people I would see lined up outside, while I realize there's nothing a person waiting for their pereorder can do,I just felt a little irritated toward Oculus that 8 people got rifts probably without preorders in and I'm still waiting, but I know it is what it is.
