Iracing has audio stutters and cuts on 120hz with quest link cable. Works fine wireless with virtual desktop

Edit. Dropping bitrate from 900 to 700 fixed it

Ya, I’ve found anything much higher than 700mbps with Link can cause audio stuttering.  Also higher bitrates add latency.  I use 650mbps for everything and this still looks fantastic to my eyes.

I’m still not a big fan of 120Hz with my Q3/rtx4090.  Except for very simple games 120Hz requires dropping graphics settings way too much.  I prefer 80/90hz to get the highest resolution/clarity.  Lowering those ruins immersion, for me anyway.

i9 13900K water cooled, RTX4090, Z790 MB w/wifi6e, 64Gb 6400 ram, 2x2TB SSD, 1000W PSU, Win 11, QPro, Q3, w/Link and Air Link, Vive Pro1 with 2x2.0 base stations, Etsy lens mod and Index Controllers

I have the same setup as you,  i9 13900K, 4090FE, 64Gb 6400 ram etc... First foray into VR is the Quest 3, i only use USB 10Gbps port and cables for connectivity  (only 3.0Gbps from the USB test in the Oculus app) for racing games only.

I also dont use the Quest 3 in standalone / augmented reality mode.  AR is nice and novel but really, the Q3 for me is just a replacement for my sim rig displays.  Using my hand to track the pointer and click a button is like doing surgery when drunk or high.

Maybe I was expecting more as i'm so used to 4K OLED displays for PC gaming (42 inch display sitting one metre away).  After days and days of tweaking, i realised the advertised resolution is for both eyes combined is not 4K (dahhhh  - Oculus did advertise 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye).

I have tried using Steam VR & Oculus Link + Oculus Debug Tool  tweaks and so far, it just feels inferior to my monitors, it's a bit like playing in the lowest graphical setting with crappy upscaling.

@Ryanality  Watch the following in 1080p on 42 inch + TV - is this considered normal as it's what im seeing in my headset.  bitrate set to 700mbps, 5m USB C, Q3 resolution set to max at 120hz.

Could my problem be:

1) Some sort of compression needed to transport the vast amount of data to the headset via a 5M USB C (10Gbps) cable or, maybe the 3.0Gbps via USB C isnt enough.  I tried using wireless mode via wifi 6E with the router right next me,  unfortunately i have to lower the bitrate and graphics  settings  to make it not stutter.

2)For testing, i have tried f1 2023, AutoMobilista 2, Le Mans ultimate and clearly, some these games are not great for VR as VR gamers are still a relatively new market.

Price wise, **bleep**, this is perfect, it's accessible for most and give us a chance to experience what the fuss is about VR/AR and some light gaming.

I'm excited to see where the next gen VR headset is going, there are so many options at all price points but PLEASE GOD let us plug it straight to our 4090 GPU instead of going through USB or Wifi.   All I want is a 4K per eye resolution from a distance of 2-3m away, OLED 120hz and trouble free connectivity and no more than $1000 USD (ie. price of a really nice OLED screen).

@Amiga.500 These are my current best setting as of March 4th, 2024 that I’m currently using with both my Q3 and QPRo (v62) using Link. I currently prefer to use my QPro because it has a bit better colours/contrast/blacks but these all still look and work fine with my Q3. This is with my fairly high end PC with i9 13900k/rtx4090/32Gb 6400ram/Win11. I’m using the official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 type-c port (2.4Gbps usb speed test). However, any decent usb3 link cable that gives you at least 2.2Gbps usb speed test should work fine. My Z790mb type-c port outputs enough power to allow for at least 5-6 hours runtime.

Meta Link PC app device graphics settings; 80Hz (my sweet spot) and res slider full right (1.4x), Settings/general tab/ oculus runtime set to default OpenXR.

ODT all default/zeros, except distortion = low, encoding bitrate = 650mbps. Higher bitrates can improve distance clarity a bit but these also increase latency and can cause some audio distortions. I think most would actually find 500mbps is fine, and anything above 450mbps results in no noticeable compression artifacts.

I use the Oculus Tray Tool (google to find it) to help fine tune game profiles, mainly super sampling and ASW modes. You can do the same manually with ODT. You can also turn off ASW manually with ctrl+num1 (numeric keyboard 1 not top row 1) and you can do this on the fly. With a msfs profile I set ASW mode = 45fps fixed with asw = off. You can do this manually on the fly with ctrl+num2

Nvidia; latest game ready driver (currently 551.61), using DDU in safe mode to fully uninstall previous drivers beforehand. Google how to do this. Also, custom clean install excluding Geoforce Experience. Up to you whether or not to use DDU. Some only use it if they seem to be having issues with nvidia driver updates.

Nvidia control panel global 3d settings all default, except power = prefer max performance, shader cache = 10Gb, and change Quality filtering default Quality to High Performance.

Win10/11 graphics disable hardware acceleration graphics (HAGS) and turn Game Mode off. You need to restart your PC for HAGS setting changes.

Mate, I have no idea what you're trying to say, lol!

Yes, you are expecting too much. You can't compare monitors with VR-Headsets as monitor technology is at least 20 years ahead.

Also to clarify a 4K Monitor will not show the same sharpness as a 4K Headset as it's not the same PPD (Pixels-per-Degree) Just google it and you will now what I mean.

A 42 inch 4K Monitor sitting 1 Meter away from your eyes would have a PPD of 77. In comparison the Meta Quest 3 has a PPD of 25 (according to google). That's equal to the your Monitor in HD Resolution (1280x720).

So to conclude in terms of VR-Technology it is comparable to 2005 when HD Monitors were the standard and if you had a Full HD Monitor your parents probably were rich. You unfortunately need to wait until there is affordable VR Headsets with resolutions of 6000x6000px per eye until you get what you want. (Could take a while)
