Give up on Desktop VR and focus on Mobile VR?

For me it was only a matter of time before the mobile app crowd started stomping at the walls of the PC enthusiasts.

Here is a lengthy article from someone who (in my opinion) completely butcher's John Carmack's quotes in order to proclaim a world where  Mobile VR offers "higher quality application" experiences in VR.

https://medium.com/@chrismtan/3-reasons-to-give-up-on-desktop-vr-apps-and-focus-on-mobile-vr-f000ab9...

3 Reasons to Give Up on Desktop VR Apps and Focus on Mobile VR
    1.    Mobile has the Largest Audience
    2.    Significant Development Time Reduction
    3.    Higher Quality Apps

I agree on the first 2 points but since when is Mobile anything higher quality than a PC counterpart? And if you read his arguments, he quotes Carmack regarding "long load times." So instead of asking PC software developers to reduce load times, he takes the logical leap to state that Mobile Apps are higher quality. Because loading faster means a guaranteed better overall quality experience? Logical leaps that leave smarts behind is fabulous.

Maybe I'm wrong though. Anyone else agree with this author?

There are many others like it, but this is mine.

Not if we're talking mobile phones.

Mobile as in wireless with the power coming from the PC, yes.

I see what you mean about higher quality but what about convenience and price?  Is the mp3 higher quality than a CD?  No but can i fit 10,000 mp3s on my phone - yes.

Was VHS better than Betamax?

Can i lie down while tethered to my PC in my front room?

He's wrong, but i know where he's coming from.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

Yeah it was "Mobile VR" regarding phones as opposed to "mobile VR" which is that thing that lets us move around lol

I thinks it's because we haven't seen enough high quality stuff on the PC. Once we see a lot more quality titles then he will realise he is wrong. There's just to much mobile stuff that uses the Samsung Gear as well as Oculus Rift atm. We need to see better titles just for Oculus Rift, I personally, thought we would of seen a few more quality titles then we've seen right now.

Maybe by the end of this year we will see a lot more stuff on a Desktop that is impossible to play on mobile VR.

I have high hopes for WebVR, especially because I plan to develop a lot of VR App's using WebVR for many years to come. But I don't see any reason to put Desktop VR on the backburner.

I guess

Pc vr.....always the best it can be...smaller base just as pc gamers

Consoles, lots of cheaper vr, not as good bigger base

Mobile, everyone has one, vr mobile will be highly used. Cheapest experience

We all live together as always
Look, man. I only need to know one thing: where they are.

His explanation for 'higher quality apps' had no explanation. I'm not even sure what it was. hopeful? Everything is a mini war now. It's not about preference anymore. It's about joining a war against non-preferences and doing everything you can to try and destroy them. This is just one guy so far, but the mentality is the same.

@vannagirl - That's true but it doesn't mean that Oculus Rift should have less quality apps because it didn't sell as much as the Samsung Gear VR. Looks like people are going where the money is instead of making quality VR software.
