God-Rays are real and disappointing coming from DK2

I just received my Rift, and while I'm very happy with most of the changes one thing glaringly sticks out, "God-Rays". Its like having smudges on your sunglasses. Yeah you can see, but the smudge just keeps annoying you until you clean your sunglasses or get a new pair. I sympathize with anyone who is annoyed by this. Before I got my CV1 I thought people were just complaining to complain, but the God-Rays are a big negative. The issue I have is that my DK2 has no God-Rays. There is no way this ever should have been released to the public in this state. These lenses literally ruin the VR experience.  My first impression after seeing the God-Rays first hand was, why would anyone release this to the public. The lenses are fine if there is plenty of light but anything that has just a hint of darkness in it and the God-Rays are there to annoy you. I haven't enjoyed anything since putting on the CV1. I'm going to give this a try for a week to see if I can get used to it, if not; I really think I'm going to sell this unit and make a few hundred dollars and just use the DK2 until the next generation. They should have stuck with the same lenses in the DK2. Those lenses are awesome and these Fresnel lenses are terrible. I believe Lucky Palmer said he would never use Fresnel lenses. I wonder what happened to make them use lenses they said they would never use?

Why did you just post a pic from a video done by one of the volunteer mods?

I think its obvious but maybe you don't have enough insight to figure it out?

I get vary minor God rays, but hardly notice them once i'm playing, I got more glare / misty look, when in oculus Home in CV1 if you look up above the menu just before you see the ceiling lights I get a slight mist / glare affect up the top, after a few minutes in the CV1 I barley notice it and once in a game etc it's basically gone.

I really want to try someones CV1 who thinks they are an issue and see if there is a difference in lenses in each CV1

@Zandil, I think the misty look is the rays being uniformly spread over the whole area.. because the whole area is bright. This results in reduced contrast compared with DK2... but on the upside you don't notice individual rays on bright views.

I'm very happy with it overall only had it 4 days but after reading so much about glare god rays etc leading up to getting mine was starting to panic a bit, once i spent a couple of hours with CV1 I can now never play a flat game again.

Tip: stay away from forums and reddit etc leading up to getting your CV1, it just causes you unnecessary stress.

Good tip and I totally agree. I don't even think about rays when I'm using it now

I can clearly see the god rays in my rift, its a bit embarrassing to show off to others when it glares but overall the experience of virtual reality and the quality of the rift is more then worth it.

Lenses are often extremely expensive and moving up to better lenses could be a cost difference of up to a couple hundred dollers so just try to appreciate the experience.
(I know cause I owned both a telescope and a camera)

Just a side note, but I took off my contacts and the God-Rays are not as bad. The lenses allow me to see clearly without my contacts so this may work out.

I normally wear glasses for reading and monitor use, used them for Dk2, CV1 I don't need them except Elite, I can read text but glasses would make it that bit clearer.
