Almost each topic on this forum results in a Rift vs Vive pitch.

Guys, please, stop brainwashing.

Does The Vive really beat the Rift in tracking? They just have a different camera set up... The Rift + Touch can apparently do the same thing when configured the same as the Vive (opposing camera set up). This was mentioned at GDC by the guys doing Job Simulator if I remember correctly.

The theoretical accuracy of the laser tracking is better than the camera based tracking. As the user moves further away from the Rift tracker, the accuracy likely falls off faster than the laser tracker for Vive, which likely has better range, coverage, and overall accuracy. That said, the Rift sensors look to be pretty good and versatile, but less adaptable to large areas. This is theoretical performance, but I'm willing to bet that the above plays out to be true. Not to say standing experiences in the Rift won't be quite good, it just that larger scale movement should work considerably better with a laser tracking sol'n on the HMD.

This has convinced me to do more research on how the Vive Lighthouse actually works.

Edit: I completely misunderstood the Lighthouse. Going to do more reading this weekend.

I'm not saying that your opinion is not valid - I have friends who prefer the sound from my desktop speakers to my reference towers - it's just that to say they are identical is far from correct. Identical, they are not. Any more than my desktop speakers offer the identical experience to my MAC reference towers.

Your comparison between speakers has to do with personal sound preference and doesn't apply here. We're not talking about what people prefer to look at.

If anything, I'd compare the two HMDs to both models of the PS Vita. The original model has a OLED display, while the second model is LED. Both displays are quite nice. Both proceed a very nice image and you wouldn't notice any specific deficiencies in the new model, until you put the two side-by-side.

From what I can gather, the difference is more substantial than your example. I've heard from two very experienced VR enthusiasts who have tried both and they said one could easily tell which HMD you had on based solely on visual quality because it was quite obvious.

Our discussion is borderline conjecture, admittedly. I'm happy to be wrong. Plus, Ive posted on rhe advantages of laser tracking on the HMDx which favors Vive, so I should have at least a modicum of dispassionate analysis in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to the final analysis of both HMDs when out in the wild!

Here comes VR!

Here's a review from someone who basically mirrors what I've heard:

The more unbiased reviews I hear from folks with substantial time with both HMDs, the more confident I am in the Rift's visual quality.

Why the hell doesnt htc have their own forums for vive people, this is getting annoying, vive fanboys defending and talking smack to rift owners ON an OCULUS forum, this is just ridiculous, they need to all be purged and moved to an official forum, if htc wont even have the audacity to create an official forum for their headset other than steams, what makes you think their headset is any better, which its not obviously but seriously, the company isn't even devoted to the headset, its a phone company.

i've tried to be fair play about it in the past but this is just too much, everywhere you go on youtube, here on reddit, vive fanboys constantly attacking rift owners, nothing but vive news over taking the forums, it wasn't even here first for one thing, oculus has been in the game longer

and the mods here and on reddit r/oculus actually allowing vive owners to talk smack talk rift owners on their official forums, im just appalled, i get it that vive and rift are here leading the tech so more people can open their eyes to it, but really guys? at the cost of oculus owners, the first adopters to this tech being disrespected on every level? that's just not fair in my opinion, even with all the reviews that oculus is in fact the better headset in terms of quality the vive owners still continue assault to defend their more expensive headset, its quite disgusting. Ya'll should be thanking us rift owners who brought this tech into the world first

You own a Rift? Or just the DKs?

Where are these reviews? I thought there was an NDA in place?

Most comparison reviews seem to be leaning towards the vive. I'm starting to wonder if I picked the right system. I agree Oculus sucks at marketing. No one has one, no one should talk about it (until now), and what a lot of people are saying is not great. I'm hoping the lighter hmi and slightly better optics will keep me happy until touch is released. Without touch oculus is at a huge disadvantage but touch seems WAY better than the HTC sticks. The problem is it won't be long before a lot of really cool aftermarket controller hardware is released and it seems like the hardware will be easier to make for vive. Still don't want to wall mount and power lighthouse though... But I have the space if needed...

This could give some more insight, they seem very objective reviews.

What is everyone talking about the Rift coming with 2 tracking cameras? It comes with one camera on a stand that you are supposed to put on your desk somewhere.
