Google Daydream View VR revealed

I'm watching the live stream of the google event.
http://www.roadtovr.com/watch-googles-live-event-daydream-vr-sees-possible-unveiling/

The Google Daydream View is their VR hmd.
It costs $79us and will be available in november.
The hmd is made of fabric (they said that's different to other hmds, but of course we know the CV1 is fabric too).

Daydream View has a remote that looks similar to the Oculus remote. REALLY similar. But it contains an IMU and is apparently accurate enough to use as a motion controller.

Hehe, in the presentation, the guy showing the remote dropped it by accident. It doesn't appear to have a wrist strap like the Oculus remote. 🙂

Of course to use Daydream, you need a Google Pixel phone (no other phones supported just yet).
The Pixel is a 5" phone with a 1920x1080 AMOLED screen.
The Pixel XL is a 5.5" phone with a 2560x1440 AMOLED screen.

That fabric looks like my sweatpants.

I'm very interested in seeing what VR experiences Google themselves are developing. "Pearl" from Viveport was excellent.

Interesting...the Gear VR does look better but they really need to throw in the Oculus remote with it.

Looking forward to finding out more specs! 🙂

View does look vastly easier to set up than Gear VR.

No FOV has been announced yet, as far as I can see (no pun intended).

According to UploadVR, the australian price for View is $199au. But at the current exchange rate it should only be $103au.
(For americans, that's equal to $151us instead of $79us)

The other prices they listed are: "$99 in Canada, £69 in the UK, €69 in Germany"

From what I can see, there's no IPD or focus adjustment.

They showed off a Harry Potter experience based on the new movie, where you wave the controller like a wand to cast spells

I saw the $199 Aussie price on UploadVR too. But a google search revealed it should be $119.

You're right, Gizmodo Australia say the price is $119 here.
Maybe UploadVR made a typo.

Gizmodo also say that while we're getting View, Pixel and Chromecast Ultra, Google Home won't be released here anytime soon. That did look kind of interesting.

That would be @cybereality. Bring wine.

(It might not guarantee a Netflix app, but it couldn't hurt, right?)

On another note, seriously could they have ripped of Oculus any more design wise ? both the remote and the main unit are strikingly slimier  similar to the Rift.
