Got My Oculus Glasses!

Just picked these up and they are perfect for using Rift.

The rimless frame and thin arms are great for fitting inside the headset. Very comfortable. And the lenses are nearly the same size as the Rift lenses, so I can get the full FOV while playing.

The model number is "Airlock Wisdom 203" if anyone wants to get them.

I'm still planning to go contacts, although I unfortunately had to push my appt back all the way til the 19th of May. In games like Technolust I can really tell my eyes are struggling and I have trouble reading things and resolving stuff in the distance and stuff like that AND I WANNA BE ABLE TO SEE.

I've sort of "adapted" to those problems in real life, but because the Rift is limited in resolution(where the real world is sort of infinite resolution) those adaptations of detecting by shape, position, spacing, etc don't carry over. I need lenses to be able to see through my lenses!

Yeah, glasses are a *huge* quality of life improvement (if you need them). I held out for a while and didn't get glasses until late into high school. It's so amazing to be able to see clearly, even though you can sort of get by in life somewhat with dodgy vision.

I did contacts for a few years here and there. There are pros and cons. What is good is that you can see with the full FOV of human vision, and your view isn't blocked by the frames or the outside of the lenses. And you don't have to look like you wear glasses, which could be a bonus or not (I find people think glasses wearers are smarter). The cons are that the contacts can take several weeks (or even months) to get used to, and your eyes tend to dry out easily.

Personally, I prefer the ease and comfort of glasses, though YMMV.

Kind of 'spensive (of course that sounds kind of silly considering how much money I've put into VR already.  🙂 ).  I have the Socrates from Eye Buy Direct and they work very well too.  I think thin/rimless frames and thin arms are key.

Or you can always invest in LASIK Eye Surgery

P.S. when I wore glasses, I loved Airlock frames.

Hi had laser vision surgery about 12 years ago and that is also a *huge* quality of life improvement if you can afford it and if you are a candidate.

I was seriously considering LASIK but the problem is that it doesn't stop your eye prescription changing over time.. I need a slightly different prescription every 4 years or so, so 4 years after LASIK, I'd need glasses again... or another LASIK treatment... and there's a limit to how many treatments you can have.. and each one has a risk of causing the same lens flare effect we see with CV1, well a small risk of a smaller degree of flare!

I'm waiting for a non-destructive treatment to come along, apparantly it's in the works.

I've looked at LASIK, and had it recommended by friends, but I'm just not comfortable with getting surgery on my eyes. They say the chance of serious complications is under 1 percent, but even a 1% chance of losing my vision is more risk than I'm willing to accept. Plus, the fact that your vision can still degrade and you end up with glasses anyway seems like a bust. I'm fine with using glasses for now.
