Got My Oculus Glasses!

Just picked these up and they are perfect for using Rift.

The rimless frame and thin arms are great for fitting inside the headset. Very comfortable. And the lenses are nearly the same size as the Rift lenses, so I can get the full FOV while playing.

The model number is "Airlock Wisdom 203" if anyone wants to get them.

I ditched my reading glasses in favor of Contact Lenses and couldn't be happier. If I were to get Oculus-fit style glasses I would probably go with prescription sport types, so that they hug my face. Either way, congrats on your purchase!

Just bought a pair of rimless/large fov glasses today to use with my motorcycle. Glad to know they might work well in the Rift as well.

@cybereality - Yeah I've worn glasses before, I know the difference it makes. It's just that I keep breaking them and my insurance will only pay for an eye exam every 2 years. I mean I could buy more pairs, but I'd break those too. That's the other reason I wanna go with contacts. I do look good in glasses, but I'm just too clumsy lol.

But yeah, the difference between my natural vision and corrected is like the difference between 480p and 4k. It's just insane how much difference there is. My left eye is 20/60 and my right is 20/140. I don't know what that is in the -/+ way but it means that my left eye can resolve at 20 feet what most people's eyes can resolve at 60 feet. So a sign that a person with normal vision can read 60 feet away, I have to be 20 feet or closer. With my right eye a sign that normal eyes could read at 140 feet, I'd have to be 20 feet or closer. It's pretty bad.

Or you can always invest in LASIK Eye Surgery

I second that.
Had my surgery last year, it took 20 minutes (10 minutes per eye, but technically it was more like, 9 minutes and a half of preparations, and 30 seconds of work,) got out sooner than I thought. Went home, slept for 10 hours, and woke up to see the world changed from 240p to 4k. :dizzy:

Plus, the fact that your vision can still degrade and you end up with glasses anyway seems like a bust. I'm fine with using glasses for now.

That would suck, being in the same situation as a person with normal vision who is getting old.

I am planning to get a laser surgery in the future.  It would cost nearly 900€ per eye. So I have to wait a bit and save some money. I use frameles glasses or contact lenses at the moment. But playing with glasses warps the image in a immersion breaking way. Still good enough. Playing with contacts is very straining for the eyes. They won't get enough fresh air and tend to dry out quickly. But the experience you can get with contacts is the best a person with bad eye sight can get.

On my DK2 I never wore the glasses and could read perfectly ED for example. IRL I don`t see a heck if I don`t wear my glasses

My eyesight deteriorated so badly in my teens and 20s. I almost failed my driving test after aceing the driving part because I could not read a numberplate on a car. The instructor passed me but told me to get eyetest. I did and the change was amazing. That was a -1.0 prescription. I am now up to -3.5/-3.75 😞

I wear contacts in vr. There is no proof but I am convinced working on pc 100% of the time has made it worse.

My contacts are great. I can sleep in them for up to 30 days (tho actually I rest my eyes every week to 10 days for a night). My optician hates them however and said I should consider surgery instead but bugger that!. I am a wuss when it comes to my eyes
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

The glasses on the image (without frames) are based on our optical specialist useless for Rift. This observation is based on using this sort of glasses with motorcycle helmets. The issues are mechanical - without the frame the strain in the glasses nose part is to big, especially  enhanced by contact with the HMD. As the result the durability of the glasses is close to zero. Correct solution will be only Rift build-in custom correction optic ...

Doesnt the rift screens sit about as far from your eyes as glasses? write a shader to emulate your prescription, then you wont need your glasses
