This I find so crazy. Anyone who feels reassured by Palmers response is a fool. He didn't give a straight yes or no answer. He said it's impossible to tell until everything is released. What a bullsh*t "answer". He knows what oculus's tech can do vs what vives tech can do. It's a yes or no answer, not a paragraph beat around the Bush "pretty much the same" answer. Consider me lost as a customer. Good luck with your restricted bs business practices. You want to sell me a product? Show me, don't expect me to throw money at you because you say it'll be just as good as your competitors. And everyone expecting a bump in the queue, I was a may pre-order because oculus didn't expect that many orders within 4 years of talk and hype. I am so mad guys. I followed them for such a long time, and only twitter and reddit responses are what we can expect from the "founder" of next gen vr. HTC and valve gave there product to the masses and told them to flaunt it. Guess what? It worked. I was holding off on canceling my Pre-order, but what's the point? Lol only thing oculus has is exclusives. Big whoop. Once they realize they have to appeal to the other half of the market they'll open up. Thanks for letting me vent. Ugh... It's just so frustrating guys....

For the record, I have a pre-order in for the Vive. I do not intend to cancel it. BUT.. I could complain a bit about Vive also in terms of getting straight information. For a long time I heard about room scale. I heard 15 x 15. I now believe that is a misleading number. Perhaps 11.5 x 11.5. Perhaps even less with the relatively short supplied tether cable, which would normally have to reach vertically to the headset as well as reach horizontally from the computer. IOWs I believe it really won't reach horizontally as far as its own length.
All that is IF the maximum distance for base stations is actually about 16 feet (5 meters), as I believe the Vive Pre manual indicates. And I suspect that information is also wrong.
I have spent some time trying to figure out where to put it. Basement ceiling is too low. Upstairs has ceiling fans and light fixtures. Moving furniture is a PITA. And wanting to get 15 x 15 has probably been a total waste of time.

It's odd to see Vive questions on the Oculus forums, and it feels odder when I answer them, but here goes.
15' x 15' was reported in very early articles but wasn't yet officially verified. It wasn't until we saw the Vive installation manual that we saw it was actually "maximum distance of 15' between the base stations". This of course creates an area smaller than 15 x 15 feet.
HOWEVER, and this is important when considering room scale, Stress Level Zero has released a video showing two base stations tracking flawlessly at 27 feet apart!.
Also, just so you're aware, you do not need to devote your room the maximum area. Room scale developers are creating scaleable content. An area as small as 1.5 x 2.5 meters is all that's required for room scale content.
Hope this info helps.

The reason for this is that the SteamVR forum is basically a ghost town, every time I wrote something there, there has not been anyone to answer or join the conversation...And if you look over there tons of thread, but not many participants...lots of thread unanswered. And there are no official VIVE forums
