Hello fellow Oculus Rift developers and enthusiasts! Looks like this might be the first post ever in the developer forums so I thought I would introduce myself.

I'm David Wyand, Head of Torque 3D development at GarageGames. Torque 3D is an open source game engine that is available from GitHub. You may find out some more about it here: http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-3d.

This year we've added Leap Motion controller support, and will push out Razer Hydra support this week. I look forward to integrating the Oculus Rift with Torque 3D and seeing what our community comes up with once the developer kit is released. We have a few Kickstarter supporters in our ranks (including myself) and we can't wait to get started!

I know this is off topic, but I see an entire segment of usefulness for this device completely outside of gaming.

What I would like to see (and I'll buy in a heartbeat if someone can make this) - is a virtual desktop.

One that is massive, you can rotate your head and simply see different areas of the desktop.

Imagine having 20 documents open at the same time, it would be like having 30 monitors in front of you.

Stock traders could have 20 different charts open in their virtual desktop at the same time.

THAT is the real power of it, making the next super-user desktop worker.

However to make this work the Oculus would need a camera added, so when you look down at your keyboard and mouse you actually 'pass through' the camera image back of the real world. That way you transition seamlessly from the real world (placing your hands on the correct keys) - to the virtual one (a large massive virtual desktop).

Let me know when you guys have one, I will buy it today cnmcdee@gmail.com

To use the Rift all you need is a computer with a decent video card. There are lots of demos to try, I would recommend starting with Tuscany.

Thanks, mate.

I have a i7 2600k CPU, 16GB RAM, SSD and GTX 580 SOC Edition and hopefully very soon the latest AMD or Nvidia GFX card.

So it should handle most games I hope.

I will also start downloading demos and start looking into some of the games that support the rift and prepare for the day it arrives.

Greetings all,
Senior 3D- artist here. Been working professionally for 15 years with archviz. I mainly got the Rift to evaluate the possibilities of using it for architectural visualization, but I'm also a gamer. I just started experimenting with light mapping and will look into exporting my scenes to Unity for Rift integration.

Cool video! One thing I think you'll be surprised when you port that into the Rift is how "off" all your objects are in terms of scale. For example that bicycle might look WAY too big when inside your actual demo.
Its pretty wild how things look proportionate on a monitor but not carry over when "inside" the actual environment

Thanks. I'm not so worried about that I always make my models in the correct scale. If I didn't I would be out of business in no time 😄 It may look strange because I'm free flying instead of walking around with the cam at the correct eye level.

Hello fellow Oculi!

Allow myself to introduce my... self..., lol! Im Chris (aka -tof3r78) and Im fairly new to game dev, but have had some experience back in the day making levels for UT. Also, some for Fallout. Nothing big, but it gave me an idea of what to expect. I have some background in web design, photography, photo editing and 2d FX which I hope will lend a little bit of a hand in this learning process, but time will tell.

I have to say that I've dreamt about VR ever since I was a kid and even more so after having watched Lawnmower Man, lol! So to say I'm excited about this is an understatement. Im sure alot of you feel the same. Its like I keep having all these amazing ideas pop in my head of what could be possible with this and then to see that there are so many of those ideas already coming to fruition because of all the other amazing dreamers here! FREAKIN STOKED!! Grrrrrrrrrr! Lol!

I look forward to seeing and experiencing what you come up with and maybe even working with some of you 🙂
