HAWKEN..

Remember Hawken? And remember the disappointment after what it touted when DK1 came out?

It seems to have fallen off of the VR landscape after it flopped on the DK1, but DK2 may be it's time. Has anyone heard or read anything about HAWKEN and DK2?

I'd love to hear they are at least compiling the new SDK into it when it's released, that'd be fun with a higher res DK2 even without the positional tracking it might be playable at a competitive level now.

Hawken seemed to be a poster child for Oculus back in the day but the game and the Oculus connection seem to have died a death.
Hawken was one of those games that felt like it was in development forever and was apparently been released on Steam some time back now. I knew absolutely nothing about that and so Hawken, a game that looked kinda cool originally, seems like a distant memory now.

It's sad that Hawken didn't get the support that it needed. But the good news is there's a game in development designed around the Rift and the demo is amazing! Check out VOX MACHINAE on Oculus Share.

I am not affiliated with this company or game, just an impressed gamer looking for a solid VR mech simulator.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

Maybe i'm the only one that have enjoyed Hawken on the DK1?

I agree that the scale was strongly off.. but you know, the game looks still cool.

I mean.. it was one of the only full-game at least and it was really enjoyable. I've played it with some other friends that hadn't the DK1 and it was super cool. It was hard to fire from the distance due to the low-resolution.. and as i said the scale was off.. but it was cool to see the environment in 3D,look around your cockpit, see the rockets and explosions in 3D.. just amazing!

Honestly i'm really hoping for a DK2 support.. maybe with a better scale this time

I had a great time with it just the other day on the DK1. The rift support it has built in is ok, but I had better luck with it off, and use Vorpx Driver instead, which makes some adjustments easier. I dont know if Vorx has DK2 tracking for that game but it worth a go.

I don't like steam either so at least can remove that too.

You lost me at the above part. Steam is the best thing to happen to PC gaming EVER.

Hawken is practically dead at this point. There hasn't been any news of updates in like 8 months now, and while Jason Hughes says there is still work being done, pretty much all of the devs I knew were on the team have left. So either the team just massively downsized, or most have been replaced.

Personally, knowing how long updates were taking, and the fact that no devs have said anything in well over half a year, it's most likely dead. Even the forums have been going down a lot recently, it's been a few weeks since they went down this last time and are still down.

I started playing hawken before the oculus rift was really a thing as well (I was playing in alpha 2), and it's still a very fun game. I helped to build one of the largest, if not the largest guild in hawken (blacksteel brotherhood, we had well over 100 active members at one point, probably closer to 200 at peak). We were given early access to private servers, and had pretty high influence on how the feel of the game was. Talking with devs on a near daily basis (though not specifically about hawken).

They haven't even looked at fixing the rift support even back when they were in constant communication with us. I kept bringing it up, and they kept shooting it down. At this point, I don't see the servers being up much longer. Who knows, maybe they are under some form of NDA, but with how much they've been loosing players recently, I would suppose it's not going to last much longer. It's sad, cause it's a really fun game, but without dev communication, most of the big hitters/supporters of the game have left because it's just boring after so many games with nothing new.

Hopefully they pull it back, and add rift support and all that, but I don't see it happening.

This is your opinion and that's minde, both subjective as they are.
You love it which I don't understand and I dislike it which you can't understand, but that's totally normal. If we all liked/disliked the same things, there would be only one brand and everyone would be driving similar cars in similar clothes to their similar houses.
I can go into elaborate details if you're really interested in why I dislike steam, just throw me a PM, since I don't think anyone else cares about my opinion on that 😉

Markus got pissed at oculus for selling the company as if he was a shareholder or anything (which would make at least a little sense if he did that before selling minecraft to Microsoft, not ten weeks after). Now I didn't understand that but I'm sure he could come up with a reason or two if we asked. Different people, different opinions, and not necessarily all make sense. ^^

Hope this answered your question ^^
