HOTAS with CV1 and Elite:Dangerous [solved]

I'd like to use a throttle and joystick for some games on my Rift, specifically, Elite : Dangerous.  My gear is a Thrustmaster Warthog, that normally uses their TARGET tool for mapping input to a single DirectInput virtual device.  However, I haven't been able to get the oculus software to work with the joystick, alone or as a virtual device.  Seems strange to me that there is no controller configuration options with the oculus software...

Does anyone have any tips on how to get such a setup working?

When you say oculus software do you mean home, or?

Yes, apologies, Oculus Home.  When I try, none of the buttons on either controller (stick or throttle) produce any result in Oculus Home.  Assuming it were to work there, I'd want to be able to use the controller in E:D, of course.

If you don't get a good response I wonder if you could use something like xpadder in the meantime. Might be annoying if you have to close out of the program to use it with E:D but I'm just throwing out suggestions. Hopefully someone has an answer better for you. Good luck.

Oculus should consider support for Voice Attack in Oculus Home. It certainly helps in ED and other situations.

I don't know about oculus home, but the HOTAS should automatically work with Elite. I've been using the X55 Rhino with it for the past year with no issues at all, and I know others use the Warthog.   But if you're going to use the warthog, I hope you have some foot pedals to control the yaw axis since the stick doesn't twist. .

The thrustmaster doesn't seem to trigger selections in Oculus Home, nor does it seem to be functioning in E:D if I launch it with the desktop window instead.  I've used the HOTAS with Elite before --- non-oculus version.  I'm not sure how input flows through oculus home into E:D, but it seems to never reach it's destination for me

The warthog hotas works fine without pedals, though I might get some someday.  I usually bind the joystick X axis to yaw, and the little mouse button on the throttle to roll.  I also set up the target script to swap the roll and yaw axes with one of the switches on the throttle, in case precision rolling is more important than yaw (such as during landing for alignment)

Input doesn't flow from oculus home to ED. Home is just a launcher for games, it has nothing to do with input in the game.

Home is pretty much hard coded for just an xbox one controller (and probably touch and the CV1 remote thingy). It would be good if they at least let us bind keys/buttons to start the game we are looking at. But for ED, I don't use Oculus Home, I just start it from the ED launcher then put the rift on.

just use a gamepad for oculus home, and crab-x settings for your hotas there pre mapped buttons

Ah this was going to be one of the first things I wanted to do with my Oculus.  TrackIR + Hotas + ED is fantastic.  I hope you manage to figure something workable out, or they patch it.  This may be a daft question, but depending on how you purchased ED can you launch it with Oculus support via Steam, and does it work there?  I noted that the steam version says it has VR support and that's where I was planning on using it from.
